Waterford Public Schools has a vacancy for a team-oriented individual. Waterford Public Schools is seeking a Head Girls Basketball Coach at Waterford High School effective for the Fall of the 2025/2026 school year. The ideal candidate will be committed to building a strong team culture, developing student-athletes both on and off the court, and implementing effective basketball skills and strategies.

The Districts facilities include three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The Waterford community strongly supports the public schools and has high expectations for staff and students. According to the State of Connecticut Next Generation Performance Accountability System, Waterford Public Schools ranks in the top third of K-12 school districts in the state. The Waterford Board of Education is a nine-member elected body.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and promote a positive team culture centered on sportsmanship, teamwork, and accountability.
- Design and execute effective practice plans focusing on skill development, conditioning, and team strategy.
- Implement basketball schemes that maximize team performance and align with modern coaching strategies.
- Provide individualized instruction to enhance player development in fundamental and advanced skills.
- Foster relationships with student-athletes, parents, school administration, and the broader community.
- Oversee assistant coaches and ensure alignment with program philosophy.
- Ensure compliance with CIAC and school athletic department policies.
- Promote academic success and personal growth for student-athletes.
- Actively recruit and develop players within the school and community to sustain a competitive program.
EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:
CT Coaching Certification Required.
- Prior coaching experience at the high school, AAU, or collegiate level preferred.
- Strong understanding of basketball fundamentals, offensive and defensive strategies, and game management.
- Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to player development, both athletically and personally.
- CPR/First Aid certification
- Knowledge of CIAC rules and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience coaching or playing at the collegiate level.
- Proven track record of program development and success.
