What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Estimator/ Purchasing Agent position at Watlee Construction?
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Construction Estimator/Purchasing Agent to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in assessing construction projects, preparing cost estimates, analyzing bid proposals, and determining project timelines and budgets. You will work closely with project managers, contractors, and suppliers to ensure projects are completed within financial constraints and according to specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review project plans and specifications to understand the scope of work.
- Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment needed.
- Analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, and subcontractors to gather necessary information for estimates.
- Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Calculate project costs and assess any risks or potential cost overruns.
- Maintain detailed records of estimates and bid documents.
- Monitor ongoing projects and compare actual costs with initial estimates to ensure budgets are being adhered to.
- Review changes in design, scope, or material specifications and adjust estimates accordingly.
- Collaborate with project managers to prepare final bids and proposals.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
- Stay up to date with the latest construction costs, methods, and materials.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Construction Estimator or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and costs.
- Familiarity with estimating software (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend, or similar tools).
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
Working Conditions:
- Primarily office-based, with occasional site visits.
- May require some evening or weekend work to meet project deadlines.
- Ability to travel to different construction sites for inspections and meetings as needed.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
