What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Attorney position at Waugh PLLC?
Waugh PLLC is looking for an experienced team player, confident in her or his abilities, and wanting to grow in the legal profession. The ideal candidate will provide support for the firm's government law practice, manage complex litigation cases, and negotiate transactional documents. This individual will build client relationships and provide an excellent customer experience for clients.
Responsibilities
- Interact with key stakeholders of municipal clients, such as the City of Clermont and Town of Hilliard;
- Provide legal support to clients and assist attorneys;
- Draft notices, motions, orders, and pleadings for both state and federal court cases;
- Appear and argue at hearings in state and federal court, often by Zoom or MS Teams;
- Act as an Assistant City Attorney for Florida municipalities, counseling decision-makers on the Florida Constitution, important Florida statutes, such as the Sunshine Law, and applicable City codes; and
- Prepare legal reports and documents.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate degree from ABA-accredited law school;
- Admission to the Florida Bar;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
- Strong legal knowledge and willingness to learn;
- Residence in Florida.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2-5 years experience as a practicing attorney;
- Desire to practice litigation, real estate, and/or government law; and
- Desire to read useful books, join firm book club, to improve legal scholarship and critical thinking skills.
