Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 14,000 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on the shores of Lake Michigan. The District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools, and a high school program divided between two 9 – 12th-grade campuses. What We Need:
Under the primary direction of the Stronger Connections Grant Manager , the Stronger Connections Teacher will manage all aspects of grant implementation and some administration, from monitoring compliance and reporting. This role ensures the effective coordination and execution of grant programs to align with the organization's goals and objectives. The Stronger Connections Teacher will collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders to maximize the impact of grant funding, ensuring proper documentation, financial oversight, and programmatic success. This is a grant-funded position, and employment is contingent upon continued funding through the Stronger Connections grant. The position will remain available only for the duration of the grant period, and the continuation of the role will depend on the renewal or extension of grant funding.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
? Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring in designated subjects (e.g., math, reading, writing, science, etc.).
? Develop customized lesson plans and educational materials to meet the individual needs of students.
? Break down complex concepts into understandable, manageable steps to ensure student comprehension.
? Assist students with homework, test preparation, and specific subject-related challenges.
? Offer guidance on study habits, time management, and organization skills to improve academic performance.
? Implement SEL support
? Implement Non-violence program
? Assess students’ strengths and areas for improvement through informal assessments or discussions.
? Set measurable academic goals for students and track progress over time.
? Provide constructive feedback to students and program stakeholders on the project.
? Adjust instructional methods and strategies based on student performance and needs.
? Create a positive and encouraging learning environment that fosters student growth and confidence.
? Motivate students to set and achieve academic goals through personalized attention and constructive feedback.
? Foster a sense of curiosity and a love for learning and sense of community.
? Establish rapport with students to create a supportive and trust-filled relationship.
? Collaborate with other tutors, staff, and parents/guardians to ensure consistency and coordination of the student project.
? Participate in team meetings to discuss students’ needs, progress, and program updates.
? Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and program staff to ensure the highest level of support for each student.
? Stay informed of best practices in tutoring and educational techniques through ongoing professional development.
? Attend training sessions and workshops as required to improve tutoring skills and skills related to the implementation of this program.
? Keep up-to-date with developments in the academic subjects being tutored.

Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in education or related field required; master’s degree in education or related field preferred;
2. At least four years of increasingly responsible experience in public education or related settings, experience in the development, administration, and facilitation of meetings and community groups.
3. Must have a valid Illinois Professional Educator License.
4. Bilingual Preferred
5. Professional experience designing and implementing training and programs for families with a background in Family and Community Engagement.
6. Demonstrate proficiency in various instructional technology tools, including web-basedproductivity and collaboration tools (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, etc.).
7. Evidence of successful interpersonal skills that will enable the candidate to communicate with diverse and multicultural populations in written and oral forms.
8. Prior experience tutoring or teaching students in an academic setting is preferred.
9. Knowledge of specific academic areas (e.g., math, English, science, etc.) and teaching techniques for diverse learners.
10. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain complex concepts in simple terms.
11. Patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt to different learning styles.
12. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple students and assignments.
13. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
