Day Camp Counselors
For the following camps:
- Belvidere Explorers for Ages 6-12: Monday-Friday: 8:45am-4:15pm
- Before Camp Counselor Hours: Monday-Friday 6:45am-9:00am
- After Camp Counselor Hours: Monday-Friday 3:45pm-6:15pm
Work weekends and holidays as assigned.
Description:
Provide direct leadership and supervision to youth. Assist in the planning, organization, implementation, and oversight of daily schedule of activities for youth in both indoor and outdoor day camp recreational settings.
Duties:
- Provide direct leadership and supervision to assigned day camp programs and services.
- Provide developmentally appropriate activities that meet the needs and interests of the participants.
- Implement camp activities in program setting according to established schedule.
- Accompany campers on field trips.
- May transport campers and supplies using a park district vehicle.
- Participate with campers in scheduled daily activities.
- Maintain day camp areas in a clean, organized, and neat manner.
- Establish cooperative working relationships with co-workers and parents.
- Attend pertinent departmental/park district meetings and in-house training sessions.
- Conduct self-according to the policies and procedures as established by the park district.
- Participate in park district safety and training program to ensure that work performed and services provided are implemented in a safe manner.
Qualifications
Education:
- Junior in high school or higher grade level.
- High school diploma preferred.
- Some college desired.
Experience:
- Working with youth.
- Supervision of groups of youth in a recreational setting preferred.
Knowledge:
- General knowledge of recreation, parks, and leisure service field.
- General knowledge of day camp and after-school programs and services.
- General knowledge of developmentally appropriate activities for youth in a recreational environment.
- Ability to operate vehicles and equipment necessary to perform job assignment.
License / Certification:
- Valid driver’s license required for programs including transportation, preferred if not including transportation.
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification required within one (1) year.
