Description:
Provide direct leadership and supervision to youth with special needs under assigned care. Assist in the planning, organization, implementation, and oversight of daily schedule of activities for assigned youth in both indoor and outdoor day camp recreational inclusive setting.
Duties:
- Work with children with a disability in a summer day camp setting.
- Provide direct leadership and supervision to assigned day camp programs and services.
- Provide developmentally appropriate activities that meet the needs and interests of the participants.
- Implement camp activities in program setting according to established schedule.
- Accompany program participants on field trips.
- May transport program participants and supplies using a park district vehicle.
- Participate with program participants in scheduled daily activities; swim with program participants two to three days a week, ride along on pick-up and drop off routes.
- May need to set up a specific schedule within the park district camp setting to manage the needs of a camper in an inclusive setting.
- Establish cooperative working relationships with co-workers and parents.
- Attend pertinent departmental/park district meetings and in-house training sessions.
- Conduct self in accordance to the policies and procedures as established by the park district.
- Participate in park district safety and training program to ensure that work performed and services provided are implemented in a safe manner.
Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma preferred.
- Some college desired.
Experience:
- Working with youth.
- Supervision of groups of youth in a recreational setting preferred.
- Experience working with children with special needs preferred.
Knowledge:
- General knowledge of recreation, parks, and leisure service field.
- General knowledge of day camp and after-school programs and services.
- General knowledge of developmentally appropriate activities for youth in a recreational environment.
- General knowledge of behavior management for youth with a disability.
License / Certification:
- Valid driver’s license required for programs including transportation, preferred if not including transportation.
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification required within one (1) year.
- Current Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Certification preferred

Hours:
- Monday - Friday: Between the hours of 9am-4pm.
- Approximately 15-40 hours per week.
