What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Design Engineer position at Wauseon Machine?
Mechanical Design Engineers are responsible for designing, building, and proving out of industrial equipment, including robotic automation cells and industrial machine tools, designed and built by Wauseon Machine.
Core Responsibilities:
- Develop conceptual designs in Solidworks based on customer and internal requirements, interact with customers while providing technical support for sales and customers, and collaborate with various departments to develop creative automation solutions.
- Lead and conduct design reviews with internal teams and customers, develop final project designs based on feedback, and create and release necessary documentation (prints, bills of materials, etc.) for manufacturing and purchasing.
- Oversee Machine Safety Risk Assessments with a cross-functional team and collaborate with Controls Engineers to develop a Sequence of Events and Timing Chart for projects.
- Conduct FMEA and Safety Risk Assessments, support the project through manufacturing, assembly, and runoff, and update and finalize documentation for submission to the customer.
- Complete engineering tasks on time and within budget, attend weekly project status meetings for team collaboration, and work closely with other aspects of the machine build process.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience designing industrial machine tools and/or automation, including robotic work cells.
- Computer Proficiency in Solidworks 3D parametric solids modeling utilizing top-down assemblies and Solidworks PDM Professional.
- Bachelor’s or associate degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
- Tool and Die or Machining Experience and/or knowledge base.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, 365, and Teams.

Salary : $75,000 - $120,000
