We are seeking a Field Service Technician (FST) to support our high-power wireless charging operations in the San Bernadino area of Southern California. Applicants should be proficient in installing, troubleshooting, and repair of power electronics. Experience working on vehicles, especially heavy-duty vehicles such as transit buses and fleet vehicles is a must. Experience with electric vehicles is a plus. Reliable and practical transportation is required.
In your role, you will be responsible for visiting customer facilities, leveraging your experience alongside our remote engineers and technicians to identify equipment issues. Your primary objective will be to promptly address these issues and find effective solutions. Additionally, you will support field installation teams in the installation of new equipment and support the commissioning process for newly installed equipment. Due to the nature of the position multiple days of travel around the U.S. may be required both for work and training purposes.
As the representative of our company in the field, your interactions with customers play a vital role. It is essential that you maintain a level of professionalism in both your actions and appearance.
This position reports directly to the WAVE Charging Manager of Field Service.
Responsibilities
- Professionally interface to customers and determine issues from their viewpoint.
- Interact with vendors and OEMs to resolve issues.
- Troubleshoot and debug system operation.
- Perform repairs as needed or refer problems to senior technicians.
- Work independently and with a team of remote technicians and engineers
- Travel to customer sites with appropriate tools to complete assigned tasks
- Perform periodic maintenance as required on customer equipment.
- Assist with installation and commissioning of new equipment.
- Document detailed notes of repairs and parts failures on work orders

Requirements
- Graduate of technical school and/or military training in electronics engineering technology preferred, and or adequate experience in a field supporting power electronics, or electric vehicle maintenance.
- Candidate must possess or be capable of acquiring a TWIC qualification.
- Exceptional communicator with ability to present concepts, recommendations, and analyses to senior management in a clear, concise, and actionable manner.
- Self-starter, dependable and possess the ability to respond quickly and accurately to multiple priorities.
- Possess a good understanding of best safety practices indoors and outdoors.
- A valid driver's license is required CDL class B is a bonus.
- Provide your own basic hand tools in both US and Metric. Specialized tools and test equipment will be provided by WAVE as needed.
- Prior experience as a field technician is preferred.
- Experience working with transit agencies and or fleet based vehicles is preferred.
- Must have knowledge of electronic and electrical systems, reading mechanical diagrams and wiring schematics.
- Proficient with operating a laptop to look at documentation and operate diagnostic interfaces.
- Knowledge and experience of high and low voltage electrical safety practices.

Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Experience working safely with lock out, tag out.
- Ability to sometimes work non-standard hours as required to gain access to vehicles when they are out of service.
- Prolonged periods sitting and or standing at a work bench and working on components.
- Prolonged periods working outdoors.
- Prolonged periods kneeling and working at ground level.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs from ground level to a working or loading surface.
- Travel to support installations and other projects in the field that need roles’ support.
- Must be able to support shared 24/7 emergency call out support to WAVE customers and infrastructure.
