Lead Lifeguard

Position Summary: The Lead Lifeguard is responsible for the successful operation of the outdoor pool. Trains, manages, and oversees the aquatics staff and develops a positive work environment that supports exceptional service. Supervises, plans, coordinates and evaluates all daily operations of pool. Responsible for all duties including scheduling, guard rotations, end of day collection reports, and administrative support for the pool operations.

Work Performed:

· Manages and motivates the aquatics team including training, performance management and recognition duties.

· Oversees employee scheduling to ensure that staffing levels are appropriate and lifeguards in the rotation as needed.

· Sets weekly schedule for lifeguards and posts at least 4 days prior to the scheduled week.

· Develops and conducts in-service training for the staff, including emergency procedures.

· Responsible for making sure proper equipment is available and in usable, safe condition.

· Ensures accurate records are maintained involving attendance, member guest fees, minor accidents, and other administrative matters and delivered to the appropriate personnel.

· Ensures that swimming tests are carried out for children using the deep end.

· Monitors safety and cleanliness, and proper pool chemistry in the aquatics areas on a daily basis.

· Complies with all OSHA standards regarding chemical safety and blood borne pathogens.

· Adheres to all company policies and procedures outlined in the Lifeguard Manual and according to the Lifeguard job description.

Requirements

 Minimum Requirements for Position:

· Must have aquatics programming knowledge.

· Knowledge of the operation of a swimming pool, including sanitation, maintenance and safety.

· Thorough knowledge of emergency services and auxiliary services available in the event of an accident.

· Ability to work harmoniously with pool staff, patrons and fellow staff while firmly enforcing rules.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal, management, leadership and organizational skills.

· Ability to instruct, assign, supervise and evaluate personnel in the performance of their duties.

· High school graduate/College degree preferred.

· Must be 18 years of age or older.

· Previous experience in lifeguard leadership required.

Required Certifications 

· Water Safety Instructor certificate or equivalent swim instructor experience.

· Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED and First Aid certification.

· Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification.

· Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification preferred.

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds, walk, bend, and stoop.

· Required to work irregular hours including weekends and holidays.
