What are the responsibilities and job description for the Meter Technician position at Waverly Utilities?
Summary: Performs electrical meter testing, installation and repair. Fully supports the mission of Waverly Utilities.
Responsibilities:
· Maintain the electric meter shop which tests, maintains, installs, removes and repairs all types of watt-hour meters.
· Check voltage and loads with indicating and recording voltmeters and ammeters.
· Investigate service irregularities and customer complaints concerning electric consumption.
· Post delinquent customer accounts, disconnect meters because of nonpayment, collect overdue bills and reconnect meters when payment has been made.
· Collect missed read data for electric and water meters.
· Perform required system maintenance on the meter data software program.
· Install, connect, test, and maintain instrument transformers and associated switches and devices.
· Keep records of meter repairs, tests, installations, and removals, and maintain needed inventory records.
· Work closely with Waverly Utilities customer service staff and various departments within the City of Waverly.
· Perform harmonics and power analyzer operation studies.
· Provide special technical assistance and expertise as required in the solution of unusual metering problems and applications.
· Assist other departments and perform other utility work as needed.
Potential Future Responsibilities:
· Acquire knowledge of SCADA system maintenance, which may include updating software, replacing faulty equipment, and testing radio, fiber optic and various communication systems.
· Acquire knowledge diagnosing and resolving technical issues related to SCADA hardware, software and related network components.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Competencies:
· Knowledge of the fundamental principles of electricity
· Thorough knowledge of the methods and practices involved in testing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of electrical meters, transformers and switches
· Working knowledge of IUB & ANSI regulations concerning meter testing, repair, and maintenance
· Ability to understand and work from construction and wiring plans, blueprints, drawings, and diagrams
· Ability to maintain effective relations with co-workers and subordinates.
· Good leadership skills and professional judgment.
· Ability to act with confidence and decision in emergencies.
· Willing to work second or third shift, weekends, and holidays when directed.
· A thorough knowledge of occupational hazards connected with the work
· Thorough knowledge of and familiarity with computers
· Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in public contacts
· Considerable experience or training in the field of meter testing and repair
· Graduation from an accredited high school or vocational school, supplemented by courses in electrical metering maintenance or electrical theory or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
· Demonstrated Powerline Technician Training and/or experience is beneficial.
· Demonstrated experience and physical ability to perform assigned tasks.
· Physical stamina to withstand work during adverse weather conditions
· Must possess a valid class A CDL with air brakes.

· Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, and lift up to 10 pounds

· Occasionally required to climb stairs, climb ladders, climb steps to back of truck, and climb steps into bucket on bucket truck.
· Rarely required to drive fork lift, operate scissors lift, use vibration tools, and lift over 50 pounds.
· Must have physical stamina to tolerate outside work in adverse weather conditions.
