Job Description
Job Title: Middle School Principal - 220 Days per year
Type of Position: Certified
Reports to: Superintendent or designee
Position Purpose: The Middle School Principal serves as the instructional leader and chief administrator of the school, responsible for implementing the district’s vision, managing daily operations, fostering a culture of excellence, and ensuring student success. The principal leads faculty and staff to improve student learning outcomes, maintain a positive school climate, and promote continuous professional development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
1. Instructional Leadership & Teacher Effectiveness
- Recruit, hire, and retain highly effective teachers aligned with the school’s vision.
- Conduct frequent classroom observations and provide timely, actionable feedback.
- Utilize teacher evaluations to differentiate performance and inform professional development.
- Support and mentor teachers, ensuring alignment with instructional best practices.
- Address underperforming teachers through coaching and remediation plans.
2. Professional Development & Leadership Development
- Design and facilitate aligned professional learning opportunities for staff.
- Provide differentiated learning opportunities based on student data and teacher needs.
- Encourage and develop teacher leadership through formal and informal opportunities.
- Implement succession plans to build internal leadership capacity.
3. Student Learning & Academic Excellence
- Set and maintain high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
- Ensure rigorous academic instruction and use of data-driven decision-making.
- Promote a culture of urgency, ensuring instructional time is maximized.
4. School Climate & Culture
- Cultivate a positive school culture that fosters student engagement.
- Maintain high academic and behavioral expectations, ensuring alignment across classrooms.
- Foster collaboration among staff through shared decision-making and professional learning communities.
- Engage families and the community in meaningful partnerships to support student success.
5. Operational & Organizational Management
- Develop and implement strategic goals aligned with district priorities.
- Manage school operations, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Monitor and enforce student discipline policies with consistency and fairness.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and district regulations, including grant management and reporting.
6. Data-Driven Leadership & Accountability
- Use data to inform school-wide decisions, instructional practices, and interventions.
- Lead faculty teams in analyzing student achievement data to drive continuous improvement.
- Ensure transparency in data usage, communicating progress to stakeholders.
7. Communication & Stakeholder Engagement
- Communicate key concepts, school goals, successes, and areas for growth effectively.
- Build strong relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members.
- Establish feedback loops to involve stakeholders in school improvement efforts.
- Serve as a liaison between the school and district leadership.
8. School Safety & Student Well-being
- Ensure a safe, supportive learning environment for all students and staff.
- Implement crisis management and emergency preparedness procedures.
- Address attendance and truancy issues proactively through targeted interventions.
- Promote student well-being through social-emotional learning and behavior support.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Master's Degree, Education Specialist, or Doctorate Degree required.
- Certification: IN Dept. of Education Building Level Administrator certification required.
- Experience: Previous administrative or leadership experience is preferred.
