Wayland Schools Community Program Nurse
The WSCP (Wayland Schools Community Program) Nurse is responsible for managing the health, medical, and training needs of the WSCP program, its staff, and students. The nurse’s approach aligns with the program's philosophy, ensuring a supportive and caring environment for staff, students, and families. This role serves as the primary medical liaison for the after-school program.
Key Responsibilities:
Health Care:
- Initiate, perform, and oversee all state-mandated requirements.
- Identify specific medical needs related to students' particular health status and facilitate appropriate management in the school setting.
- Serve as a health advocate for students through communication with parents, health care providers, and community agencies.
- Triage students and staff with injuries or illness, providing appropriate intervention and follow-up.
- Administer medication in compliance with school policy and state regulations.
- Develop and maintain individualized healthcare plans for students with documented health needs.
- Facilitate special nursing care for technology-dependent students.
- Act as a nurse educator for students, parents, and staff on health-related issues.
Safety:
- Educate and promote compliance with universal precautions.
- Identify unsafe conditions in the school setting and collaborate with administration and school personnel toward resolution.
- Collaborate with school personnel to develop and implement safety plans for students with health conditions.
Education:
- Collaborate with staff to develop, implement, and deliver school health programs.
- Modify educational programs to meet the health and emotional needs of individual students.
- Consult with teachers about students’ specific health issues that may impact learning.
Record Keeping and Reporting:
- Maintain computerized medical records for each student, including immunizations and screenings.
- Prepare and submit all reports mandated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
- Maintain adequate health room supplies.
- Provide interpretation of health assessments and medical data for SPED evaluations.
Communication:
- Use effective communication skills (written, verbal, and nonverbal) with parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and agencies regarding student health issues.
- Attend meetings and conferences on health services and professional development.
- Maintain a positive environment in the health room and communication with students, parents, staff, and administrators.
- Interpret school health regulations to administrators, staff, and parents.
- Identify community resources for referrals and conduct home visits when necessary for effective health management.
Professionalism:
- Participate in professional development to maintain a contemporary knowledge base for providing care to students and staff.
- Perform all scheduled duties and responsibilities within expected time frames.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to the health and safety of WSCP students and staff.
- Attend required meetings and training sessions.
Qualifications:
- RN License valid in Massachusetts (required).
- Certification in First Aid, CPR, and EpiPen administration.
- Authorized to provide EpiPen training to staff.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
- Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (C.O.R.I.), Sexual Offender Record Check (S.O.R.I.), and fingerprints.
Job Details:
- Type: Part-time
- Pay: $54.14 per hour
- Hours: 21 per week for the school year - A flexible schedule can be considered.
