DESCRIPTION OF WORK
A Residential Program Worker assists those who are returning to the community after mental health hospitalization as well as preventing premature hospitalization. This work supports the consumer's efforts to reintegrate into or remain in the community, thus fostering success in recovery and in building the confidence and self-reliance needed for full independent living in the community.
This important role supports the consumer's efforts consistent with the Individual Service Plan (ISP) in implementing goals, plans and objectives. You will train the consumer in home safety protocols, share observations with supervisor and MDT members as appropriate, and document or chart observations, behaviors, and consumers progress in a timely manner. Transporting consumers in a county vehicle to appointments may be necessary. This position requires close contact with the consumer in his or her home environment. In this capacity, you will work on shifts to assure 24-hour availability in a small facility in which a limited number of seriously mentally ill (SMI) consumers reside, each in their own apartment.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Part-time county position, approximately 15-20 hours per week.
- Often, irregular hours, including: evenings, holidays and weekends may be required.
- Employee may have occasional overnight travel or out of county travel for meetings or training.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Six months of experience as a Residential Program Trainee; or
- One year of experience in a Human Services Agency working with the mentally disabled, the elderly, or children and youth; or
- Two years of college which includes courses appropriate to the Human Services field; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Other Requirements:
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
- You must pass a background investigation.
- A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
- Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
