Primary Objective of Position: Assist the teacher achieve teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Under the supervision and with instruction of the teacher, assist in individual and small and large group instruction.
  • Supervise assigned student, monitoring behavior and prompting as necessary.  Help him/her to act in an appropriate manner and help to prepare him/her for the school day.
  • Supervise students in the lunchroom, restrooms, time-out area, halls and in those areas as requested. Monitor actions and record information for file. 
  • Supervise students in the absence of the teacher or under the direction of the teacher including assisting the teacher with discipline and behavioral reinforcement.
  • Operate audio-visual equipment.
  • Assist in preparation of instructional materials.
  • Assist in location of resource materials.
  • Perform clerical tasks such as making telephone calls, filing and maintaining student records.
  • Assist in field trips.
  • Check students' work, supervise testing and make-up work.
  • Incorporate Capturing Kids Hearts teaching methods into daily schedules. Be patient with students; utilizing firmness, friendliness and fairness.
  • Know emergency procedures for the building and classrooms within which you work.
  • Report incidents of unusual nature to teachers and principal.
  • Greet all visitors courteously, and to direct or escort them to the proper area.
  • Treat all students, faculty, and staff courteously and to cooperate with and work in a courteous manner with co-workers and other personnel.
  • Attend staffing’s as needed or requested by teacher.
  • Participate in professional training.
  • Help with and guide the orderly and safe passing of students after school at the stations.
  • Arrive and depart from the building as scheduled.
  • Be well organized and professional in fulfilling the responsibilities of job.  Maintain confidentiality.
  • Dress appropriately for the position and work required.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude toward school, students and job and to communicate the same to the community.
  • Accept constructive criticism and suggestions and to seek to improve each performance responsibly.
  • Adhere to applicable state and federal laws, rules, and regulations, board policies and administrative rules.
  • Other duties as necessary and assigned by supervising teacher or administrator.

Work Environment:  The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: walking, standing, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; rarely lifting items above twenty-five pounds. Physical actions may include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending at the waist, and reaching. The job requires regular walking, talking, and standing and potentially sitting. The job is performed regularly indoors with occasional exposure to seasonal temperatures and natural elements; subject to moderate to loud student, campus and environment noise; subject to frequent interruptions and contact with employees and students; regular use of computer keyboard, mouse and other basic technological devices. This position is not eligible for remote work.

Terms of Employment:  Wages and benefits are to be determined by the board.
