Job Title: 40% Preschool Art Teacher (2025-2026 School Year)
Location: Wenonah Elementary School, Waynesboro, VA
Reports to: Principal
Job Summary:
The Elementary Art Teacher at Wenonah Elementary School is responsible for creating and delivering engaging art lessons to students in grades K-5. This role involves developing students' artistic skills, encouraging creativity, and promoting an appreciation for the arts. The teacher will design and implement a curriculum that meets Virginia state standards, caters to diverse learning styles, and integrates with other subjects when appropriate.
Key Responsibilities:

Lesson Planning and Instruction:
- Develop and implement an art curriculum and lesson plans that meet Virginia state standards.
- Teach a variety of art techniques, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and other media.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and creativity.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.

Classroom Management:
- Establish and maintain classroom routines and procedures.
- Manage student behavior constructively and positively.
- Ensure a safe and orderly classroom environment.

Assessment and Evaluation:
- Assess students' progress through formative and summative assessments.
- Provide constructive feedback to students to support their growth.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and report to parents/guardians as required.

- Work collaboratively with other teachers and staff to integrate art into the broader curriculum.
- Participate in school events, exhibitions, and art shows.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress and upcoming projects.

- Share best practices and new ideas with colleagues.

Resource Management:
- Maintain and organize art supplies and equipment.
- Order and inventory art materials as needed.
- Ensure the art room is clean and orderly.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field. A teaching credential or certification in Art Education is preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience teaching art to elementary-aged children is desirable.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of various art techniques and media.
- Excellent classroom management and organizational skills.

Compensation:
- Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
