Academic Services Officer I/II- Computer Science

Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Academic Services Officer I/II- Computer Science at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):

Serve as liaison between Department Chair, Undergraduate Committee, Graduate Committee, and academic advisors.
Assist in the development and implementation of a national strategic recruitment effort for both graduate and undergraduate programs. 

Coordinate and facilitate department assessment activities (including but not limited to ABET and HLC assessment).

Represent Computer Science during recruitment activities including high school visits, college fairs, community college events, university outreach events, community programs, and on campus events per the regional recruitment strategic plan. Plan, organize, implement, and participate in a wide range of regional recruitment and outreach programs for both freshmen, transfer students, and graduate students.

Meet with prospective students, parents, and others essential to the recruitment process off-campus and provide admissions and enrollment information. Develop customized, strategic campus visit opportunities for individual recruits or groups of students.

Assist Graduate Program Director in the graduate admission process, and administering M.S., and Ph.D. program procedures for current students.

Acquire/maintain knowledge and understanding of Wayne State University and the city of Detroit/metro region to educate prospective students, families, subordinate staff, and others essential to the recruitment process about the University's strengths, and thereby enable the successful recruitment and enrollment of new undergraduate students.

Create reports and databases to track cohorts of current students through our academic programs. Develop and monitor reports to forecast potential upcoming graduation bottlenecks. Assist Department Chair in planning/scheduling courses to minimize students’ time to graduation.

Prepare reports on applicants, admits, and enrollments by regions.

Plan, organize, and execute off-site strategic recruitment and alumni engagement programs. As appropriate, work closely with development leaders to create collaborative, holistic, efficient regional events that align with both development and student recruitment strategic objectives.

Prepare and design recruitment material (e.g., slides, brochures, flyers) to provide visiting students or to give to faculty/staff visiting other universities or high schools.

Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required for ASO I; Master's degree and professional work experience required for ASO II. Degrees in counseling, education, educational leadership, student affairs, higher education, or related fields.
Previous work experience in higher education.

Demonstrated excellence in written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

Experience establishing rapport with students of all backgrounds.

Strong technical skills especially in software related to student databases (Banner) including knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Google apps, online research skills, social media, and general comfort with web-based systems. 

Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to establish positive and respectful working relationships with students, staff, and faculty. 

Strong analytic and problem-solving skills.

Must be available to work occasional evening and weekend hours assisting in recruitment events, open houses, orientation, graduation, etc. as needed and requested.
