TITLE: ASSSESSMENT SPECIALIST FOR WAYNESBORO HIGH SCHOOL
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Waynesboro High School Assessment Specialist is responsible for managing, coordinating, and analyzing all student assessments at the high school level. The assessment specialist will monitor student SOL graduation progress in partnership with relevant support staff. The position supports teachers, administrators, and division staff in using assessment data to drive instruction, improve student outcomes, and meet state and federal accountability requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid certification to meet State requirements with specific endorsement in the area to which assigned.
- Have demonstrated the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, parents, school personnel, and members of the community.
- Must have demonstrated success in working with a variety of students.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
JOB GOAL:
To support all areas of assessment in the implementation of the instructional program at Waynesboro High School.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assessment Coordination and Administration:
- Oversee the planning and administration of state-mandated and division-wide assessments, including (e.g., Standards of Learning (SOL), AP exams, benchmark assessments, CTE Exams, etc.
- Develop and maintain assessment schedules, ensuring compliance with all testing guidelines and requirements.
- Coordinate the secure distribution, collection, and storage of testing materials.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assessment-related issues at the high school level.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Analyze and interpret assessment data to identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement.
- Prepare and present reports for administrators, teachers, and other stakeholders to inform instructional decisions.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal reporting requirements for assessments and accountability.
Training and Support:
- Train school staff on test administration protocols, procedures, and best practices.
- Support teachers in using assessment data to inform instructional planning and differentiation.
- Serve as a resource for faculty and staff on assessment-related questions and concerns.
Compliance and Policy Adherence:
- Maintain knowledge of changes to state and federal assessment guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with assessment security protocols and ethical testing practices.
- Conduct investigations of testing irregularities and implement corrective actions as necessary.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Must possess the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Must possess the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Must possess the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Must possess the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

- Hold a valid Virginia driver's license.
