Schedule: Wednesday - Sunday 8:30 - 5:00; some evenings required
Position Summary
The Volunteer Coordinator supports the daily functions of the volunteer program and assists the Volunteer Services Manager with recruiting, providing training and mentorship, and retention of volunteers (excluding foster and corporate volunteers). The Volunteer Coordinator also provides guidance, support, resources and tools to other staff who work with volunteers. The Volunteer Coordinator will assist the Volunteer Manager in fulfilling all administrative duties.
Primary Accountabilities
- Facilitate the recruitment and enrollment of all new volunteers.
- Act as a valued resource and liaison for all volunteers.
- Create and/or update volunteer training materials as needed. Serve as an instructor and recruit, train and schedule other volunteer instructors for various training courses including, but not limited to, DOG101 and CAT101.
- Assist with volunteer retention initiatives
- Assist with weekly volunteer email and other communications as assigned.
- Develop and execute valued methods for volunteer recognition.
- Ensure volunteer information, including completed training, is current and accurate in all software programs.
- Maintain and communicate training calendar in an accurate and efficient manner.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory, safety, security and operational standards.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all co-workers and volunteers.
PRIMARY TASKS & DUTIES
- Provide administrative support to Volunteer Manager as needed.
- Process phone and email requests for information about the volunteer program.
- Manage volunteer communication on an ongoing basis.
- Maintain calendar of events and provide internal and external communication updates as required.
- Schedule classes and prepare materials for volunteer training and programming.
- Enter information into and edit software databases accurately and efficiently.
- Facilitate volunteer recruiting and application process.
- Teach training classes as required.
- Regularly communicate with supervisor, discussing any challenges, ideas, or suggestions.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience
- Demonstrated experience working effectively with people in a variety of situations
- Demonstrated experience working effectively with animals preferred
- High School degree or GED equivalent
- Proficient computer skills which include knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Effective written communication
- Experience with Volgistics software is a plus
Working Environment
- Position requires use of computer and keyboard, telephone, copy machine and media equipment.
- Employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high. Will frequently be working with and exposed to a variety of animals.
