What are the responsibilities and job description for the Software Engineer (Build and Release) position at Wayve?
The role
- Making our build system faster, more efficient and shinier than ever
- Ensuring that we and our engineers use the right tools in the most efficient manner to achieve our goals
- Keeping tools, technologies and frameworks we use up-to-date
- Performing general administration and technical duties in order to support activities and operations within the Build & Release team
- Setting in operation a new system ensuring our pipelines are fast and reproducible to reduce the flakiness of different build stages across the entire company
- Supporting the team’s objectives and technical strategies to identify and seize opportunities that enhance the overall efficiency of the team
About you
In order to set you up for success as a Build & Release Engineer at Wayve, we’re looking for the following skills and experience.
Essential
- 5 years professional experience in Software Engineering, DevOps, CI/CD or similar role
- Build systems experience: Bazel ideally, alternatively Buck, Pants, Cmake, Make, Maven or Gradle
- Experience with CI/CD systems (ideally buildkite/gitlab CI/travis/circle CI ; bamboo or jenkins (with very thorough understanding of jenkins pipelines) can work
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g. Terraform, Ansible)
- Experience in Python is required (but we are not looking for language-expert)
- Strong debugging skills; willingness to optimise your code
- Attitude to make the best for other engineers and yourself
Desirable
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes and Cloud systems (we use mostly Azure)
- Additional programming languages (mostly Rust, C , JS)
- Experience with Linux systems (esp. Ubuntu) & shell scripting
- Cloud Experience: Azure, AWS or GCP
- Yocto/bitbake/buildroot
