Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Owner, the Director of Exceptional Education will carry out the following duties:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
§ Ensure that center will follow all state and federal regulations relative to the identification, placement, and program development for special education students;
§ Provide system-wide leadership for assuring the development of effective and appropriate special education programs;
§ Provide leadership and system representation in matters relating to due process procedural safeguards;
§ Develops system procedures for identification, evaluation and placement of students with special education needs;
§ Chairs or participates in staffing which may result in IEP recommendations requiring additional financial commitments from the school system or which may have legal ramifications;
§ Represent the center in dealing with outside agencies and organizations concerned with special education;
§ Facilitates communication and mediation with parents and advocates regarding the delivery of special education services;
§ Coordinates the development and maintenance of student special education files;
§ Develops and coordinates development of various data reports requested by both State and Federal
Agencies;
§ Assists others in the preparation and review of reports generated for State funding of Special Education programs as applicable
§ Coordinates staff development sessions for general and special education personnel;
§ Coordinates the development of information required by the transportation department in arranging specialized transportation;
§ Approves special education requests for supplies, materials, and equipment; and
§ Coordinates instructional program for special education services.
§ With owners/educators/staff, assume leadership for recruiting, hiring and evaluating special education teachers.
(Special education teachers should not be hired, transferred, or terminated without approval of the owners.)
§ Conduct Focus Walks and provide feedback to teachers, administrators, and owners
- The purpose of focus walks is the gather evidence of systemwide implementation of the common core Learning standards, shifts in instructional practice and best practices related to implementation.
§ Develop and implement Board Policies relating to Students
§ Supervise Related Services Providers- PT/OT/ST/Behavioral Therapy for each child
§ Coordinate services with School
Systems for school age children
§ Supervise FTE data collection as it relates to Special Education; and
§ Maintain appropriate room arrangement
§ Maintain safe environment for children
§ informs Parents on any health related ailments
§ Promotes center philosophy and objectives
§ Support and abide by NAEYC code of ethics
§ Engages in ongoing staff development to improve personal and professional skills for the required 15 contact Hours / Professional Development Hours per center licensure year
§ Support professional growth of colleagues by sharing materials and information
§ Attends in-service, workshops, and staff meetings, provided by the center
§ Leaves personal problems at home and does not allow personal problems to affect job performance
§ Maintains positive attitude even in times of conflict
§ Arrives promptly for work
§ Oversee curriculum execution and develops IEP for each student
§ Communicate effectively with parents/families
§ Perform other duties as assigned by the Owners
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Educational Level
§ Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Education, early childhood education, child development, elementary education, childcare, special education, psychology (with an emphasis on child psychology), or family and consumer science (with an emphasis on child development), or equivalent degree from another child-related field or course of study
- worked in childcare at least 2 years
- Certification/License Required
§ Up to date 121 form
§ Pass state background check and sex abuse registry
§ Complete State Director’s Orientation, Playground Safety, and Childcare regulations classes
§ Physical Activities
- Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities
§ Proficient Skills
- Leadership, organization, planning, communication, administrative budget and experience in managing multiple complex systems projects; prior supervisory or leadership experience

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $30,000.00 - $35,000.00 per year
