JOB DESCRIPTION
HISTORIC FARM ASSISTANT
Status: Seasonal (Flexible Schedule)
Salary: $13.25-$13.75/hour
Reports to: Historic Farm Coordinator
Classification: Regular - Employee does not routinely have supervisory responsibilities.
The position of Seasonal Farm Assistant directly involves but is not limited to the following illustrative duties:
1. Conducts daily farming operations, cleaning and maintenance of Carter Historic Farm (CHF), including but not limited to the outbuildings, crop farming, livestock care, grounds, fruit/vegetable gardens, and woodlot. Works with the operations and stewardship departments and outside contractors when appropriate.
2. Works under the supervision of the Historic Agricultural Specialist to conduct daily farming operations.
3. Assists park visitors and volunteers when needed. Must be courteous and helpful at all times. Must be a positive representative of the Wood County Park District.
4. Required to operate a variety of equipment, including but not limited to the following: tools such as line trimmers, drills, and hand tools; heavy equipment such as tractors and rototillers.
5. Must be able to routinely lift 50 pounds.
6. Assists with the implementation of requested/public programs, volunteer service projects and special events. Must be able to work well with groups of all ages and abilities. Responsible staff will assist in supervising volunteers.
7. Works a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
8. Performs other duties as assigned by the Historic Farm Coordinator that are deemed appropriate and necessary for the position.
9. Must be team oriented and willing to work to build an atmosphere of teamwork in the workplace with staff at all levels.
Requirements:
Must be 17 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license. Must possess good organizational and communication skills. Must be willing to learn and perform tasks in a period-appropriate manner, and to work with historic farming equipment. Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, reach objects overhead, and work outdoors.
