Position
The underwriting department at WCF has an immediate opening for someone who can demonstrate the WCF values to join their team as a Manager, Commercial Underwriting, reporting to the VP, Underwriting. This position is a full-time, exempt position, based out of the Sandy, Utah Headquarters. This position is open to internal and external candidates.
Responsibilities
The person in this position leads a group of underwriters and is responsible for all success indicators and their professional development. The Manager, Commercial Underwriting will manage, motivate, support, and develop a team of underwriters and support personnel while implementing underwriting best practices. This person will collaborate with multiple departments to attain department and company goals while creating and maintaining strong positive working relationships with other departments. The person in this position provides resources and training to underwriters and provides business subject matter expertise for underwriting and other departments. The Manager, Commercial Underwriting works with underwriting management to build and execute department strategy, develops and implements short and long-term plans to attract new and retain profitable business, and may underwrite and manage a book of business. This person is responsible for providing an excellent customer service approach to managing business relationships, both external and internal; developing employees to create job satisfaction, high morale, and technical competency; and serving as a mentor, knowledge resource, and problem solver. This manager manages a group of underwriters to attain key operating metrics and provides regular reports on progress to goals and key business initiatives.
Qualifications
The most qualified candidate will have:
- Bachelor's degree in business or a related field, CPCU preferred.
- At least five years of multiline underwriting experience.
- Two years of management experience preferred.
- Knowledge of insurance company operations, coverages, finance, and the insurance industry.
- Working knowledge of ISO, NCCI and independent bureau's manuals, rules, regulations, and classifications.
- Skilled in using MS Office Suite with strong Excel skills; experience with business analytics preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Field sales skills working with independent agents preferred.
- Strong critical thinking, analytical, and technical skills; works with a sense of urgency; embraces innovation.
- Intrinsically motivated. Identifies the benefits and opportunities of change and quickly alters approach to implement and support change efforts.
An internal candidate should have six months in their current position, acceptable job performance, and must notify their current supervisor that they've applied for the position.
