Job Summary: The Driver Supervisor is responsible for managing and coordinating the activity of drivers and assigned resources. This position ensures customers receive the highest level of service while operating efficiently in accordance with safety and regulatory requirements.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Organizes and oversees the schedules and work of drivers
Directs assigned tasks and provides assistance as needed
Recruits and interviews prospective employees and chooses the best applicant based on skills, knowledge, and abilities required for the job
Provides orientation and training for new employees
Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive
Communicates expectations, coaches for improvement and distributes discipline as necessary according to policy
Essential Job Functions:
Supervise drivers efficiently by using PeopleNet tools including but not limited to on time performance, preferred routes, unauthorized stops, accuracy of detention requests, and truck performance
Dispatch drivers by using PeopleNet/check calls and work with Planners as applicable to set up routes
Assist drivers with resolving any issues they may encounter
Capture all load information and maintain TMW in real time
Check all loads daily for on time delivery and communicate with Planners and Customer Service Representatives as applicable on any issues
Determine daily capacity of freight and available resources through check calls, hours of service, and maintain a daily list of assets and their locations
Maintain Totalmail within TMW in a timely manner by responding to driver messages, correcting errors, processing detention requests, and determining drivers who aren't utilizing it
Track and document driver service failures
Maintain a current list of assigned trucks for drivers
Broker freight loads out of assigned geographical area via phone calls and either emailing or faxing rate confirmations with approved rates from Planners or Customer Service Representatives as applicable
Provide AM/PM yard checks at the dairies and drop yards and compare with the schedules to ensure loads are picked up in a timely fashion and that the oldest milk is being moved first
Maintain adequate numbers of loadable trailers at these locations
Utilize Lat-Lon to track loads, ensure efficient use of all trailer inventories
Work with maintenance to fix equipment issues and schedule routine maintenance
Review Driver/Truck Performance including average miles, deadhead percentage, customer service late/missed loads
Review driver's license and DOT physical status and remind drivers to renew with the safety department
Responsible for the collection of drug and alcohol screening tests and maintaining certification per regulations
Schedule driver home time/vacation time as needed
Review truck idle time and truck utilization reports to better utilize equipment
Answer the phone in a professional manner

Qualifications:
Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Valid Driver’s license in state of residency with acceptable driving record
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and submit to the company random drug and alcohol program
Proficient in basic computer skills, Microsoft Office suite, and Google Workspace
Communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of internal and external staff
Manage multiple tasks independently to meet deadlines
Ability to adapt to changing schedules and priorities
Ability to work any schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Preferred:
Knowledge of DOT, FMCSA regulations, or the transportation industry
Entry-level knowledge of TMW software
Physical Requirements:
Physical Demands: Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods. This is mostly a sedentary office classification, although standing in outdoor work areas and walking between terminals, safety lane, and commercial motor vehicles (CMV) operating areas for short periods can be necessary. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator, and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
Work Environment: The duties of this job are performed in both an office environment, a commercial motor vehicle terminal environment, and outdoors, thereby experiencing some minor to moderate level of noise due to office/CMV equipment. Exposure to various climate conditions, fumes, dust, odors, oil/grease, and gasses.
