We are seeking experienced Chemical Plant Operators with expertise in chemical handling, material transfer, truck loading/unloading, forklift operation, and batch manufacturing in an automated plant environment. The Chemical Plant Operator will oversee the entire production process of a given unit, ensuring smooth, safe, and efficient operations while maintaining high-quality results.
This role requires working shifts, long hours, and weekends (on rotation), as the plant operates 24-5. The position reports directly to the Plant Manager and assigned shift supervisors.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Monitor and oversee the equipment in the assigned unit, ensuring the safe transfer of chemicals and adherence to manufacturing procedures.
- Operate and control instruments to ensure proper functionality and assist with maintenance when needed.
- Handle equipment shutdowns and emergency responses safely and efficiently.
- Support warehousing activities by loading and unloading pallets/totes, transferring materials to storage or the plant.
- Assist with bulk chemical loading and unloading during shifts.
- Maintain housekeeping inside the unit to ensure a clean, safe working environment.
- Record charge amounts, test results, and other relevant operational data. Monitor test results and suggest adjustments to improve manufacturing processes.
- Participate in all safety and environmental training courses provided by the organization.
Required Skills:
- Proven hands-on experience in a chemical plant, with bulk liquid truck/railcar loading/unloading experience (strongly preferred).
- Familiarity with industry-standard equipment and technical expertise in both manual and automated batch processing plants (strongly preferred).
- Strong safety-first mindset with a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
- Ability to facilitate effective cooperation across departments, customers, suppliers, and management.
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills to adapt to changing priorities.
- Excellent team-building, decision-making, and people management skills.
- Willingness to support plant operations and customer needs 24/7, including handling emergencies.
- Basic computer skills (email, MS Word, Excel).
- Forklift certification required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
- Capable of standing, sitting, or walking for extended periods.
- Ability to squat, kneel, climb stairs/ladders, and reach overhead.
- Comfortable working in varying environmental conditions (heat, cold, dust, etc.).
