WE WIN Mission WE WIN Institute (WE WIN) is a nonprofit, community-based organization dedicated to the mission of creating academic and social success for all children. WE WIN provides a safe and nurturing environment for young people and works to increase parental involvement in the lives of their children and in their child’s schools. WE WIN gives children a base of knowledge in core subjects and assists them in developing the skills that they need to grow into successful and responsible adults. Our programs are focused on giving youth and families tools to create long-term and systemic change in their lives and communities.
Position Summary Under the guidance of the Executive Director, the Book Coordinator is responsible for managing book and library inventory, community/pop-up events, and Cultural Reading Room storytimes at WE WIN. Responsibilities include reading books and being able to recommend and talk knowledgeable about books by Black authors and illustrators, maintaining a tracking system for books at events and in storage/CRR, coordinating 1 pop up reading event per month with community partners, 2 storytime events per month in Zion CRR, collaborating with Literacy Director to recommend books for purchase, and coordinate with Administrative Assistant to bring in National Authors/Illustrators and host book events for community. Commitment to literacy and attention to detail are essential for fostering relationships with partner orgs and youth and families centered on Black books and distributing them for free. Coordinate with local Black book creators as well as select national Black book creators
Essential Functions Assist in creating a welcoming and dynamic space for youth and families. Coordinate and Implement story times twice a month including coordinating readers and creating promotional flyers. Foster a love of reading within the WE WIN community by hosting pop- up events with the WE WIN flavor. Organize, catalog, and maintain book collections. Promote Black literacy through programs and events. Rotate book displays in CRR. Organize Saturday reading sessions. Organize & create a system in the storage locker, which includes: where books should be placed on the shelves, books grouped by age, number of each book & title that is in the storage locker, which would be a different list than the books in the Cultural Reading Room. Organize Black History Month reading events. Explain book systems to staff so that everyone understands what’s happening, and can follow and step in to support when needed. Perform other duties as needed. Must have a drivers license and transport books and supplies to and from events. Lift 25 pounds or reasonable accommodations.
Cleaning & Maintenance Responsibilities Maintain the Cultural Reading Room. Vacuum floors and hallways. Clean and dust tables and organize all materials. Take pictures at all events and put them in the Google Drive - “Cultural Reading Room.” Create a system for the bookshelves in the Cultural Reading Room. They should be full, they should be categorized by age & subject, and they should be orderly. Clean glass surfaces. Sanitize couches, pillows & slippers with Lysol. Make sure that all the pairs of slippers are together. Make sure slippers are washed once a month.
Work 20 hrs a week- Ed and LC to set up schedule together
Qualifications & Skills Strong organizational and inventory management skills. Passion for literacy and book cataloging. Ability to curate collections reflecting Black literature and culture. Experience planning and coordinating literacy events. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Knowledge of library management systems is a plus. Ability to work effectively with youth in an educational capacity.
