Position Description : (Major Duties / Specific Skills) :
Washington Terrace Senior Center Director :
Senior Advocacy and Outreach : Recruit teachers, presenters, speakers, and entertainment; provide assistance for seniors with forms and paperwork related to community resources, insurance, Medicare Part D, etc.; work with seniors and understand their needs; involve seniors with appropriate resources and activities.
Activity Coordination : Recruit, train, schedule, and organize volunteers as needed, and provide volunteer recognition; function as station manager for WHS RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program); carry out supervisory responsibilities for teachers, volunteers, and kitchen staff; oversee facility maintenance and communicate needs to appropriate staff; ensure supplies, equipment, and building are secure.
Community Liaison : Serve as an outreach specialist and senior center director of the WTSC (Washington Terrace Senior Center), providing reports, subcommittee participation, and staff support as requested; meet regularly with the WT city reps and WHS management to review needs of the center and its seniors and discuss ways to improve activities and classes; network to coordinate center operations with various entities in the community; approach corporations, foundations, civic organizations, and individuals to obtain financial or in-kind donations for the center.
Record Keeping : Order supplies within budget constraints; maintain inventory; coordinate with WT City for the use of the facility by various groups; deposit funds and issue refunds, if applicable; collect donations (memberships), class fees, and writing receipts; create and maintain documentation and reports about participants and activities as requested.
Work Schedule :
Traditional work schedule; 28 - 29 hours / week; 5.75 hours / day, Monday thru Friday, 9 : 00 a.m. ~ 2 : 45 p.m. (typical)
Qualifications / Experience / Education :
High school diploma plus 4 years' direct experience working with the elderly, people with disabilities, parents / grandparents caring children, or the adults / youth being treated for substance abuse or mental health; or Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Gerontology, or related field, plus one year direct experience with the elderly, people with disabilities, parents / grandparents caring for children, and adults / youth being treated for substance abuse or mental health. Valid Utah Driver License and clean driving record (i.e., no more than one violation). Basic computer skills. Office work environment, requires ability to lift 40 pounds and handling equipment related to recreational, educational and nutrition services and programs. This position does require occasional travel throughout the community, and attendance at meetings held at WHS (Weber Human Services) and the Senior Nutrition Center, as well as other locations for community networking. May include walking, standing or sitting for long periods of time.
