Job Summary/Basic Function
Reporting to the Executive Director for Community Engagement, the Director for the Office of Community Development is responsible for the running of the Office of Community Development. The Director adheres to the overall Weber State University and Institutional vision, mission, goals, values, and strategic plan. This position is responsible for cultivating evidence-based applied research and systemic approaches to community development for the Ogden Civic Action Network, serving as Board Administrator to the OgdenCAN Board, supervising OgdenCAN staff, collaborating with the Development Office in fundraising efforts including attracting new anchor institutions and stewarding existing anchor pledges, and engaging residents, community leaders, political leaders, students, faculty and staff.
The Director of the Office of Community Development is responsible for developing, facilitating, and maintaining critical partnerships for the university related to Weber State’s place-based community development and anchor institution commitments. The Director represents Weber State University and Ogden CAN on various national, regional, and local networks and actively participates in policy and direction development. Networks include but are not limited to the Anchor Learning Network, Anchor Collaborative Network, and the United Partnership Council. This position leads the university’s anchor-mission committees and coordinates with multiple areas of campus to achieve the mission of the office including the development of core metrics related to the Social Determinants of Health and community wealth-building model in the areas of hiring, purchasing, and investing. This position is a full-time Director, 12 months per year.
Required Qualifications
Required:
- Master’s degree or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
- 5 years experience in a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred:
- Excellent oral and written skills to interact effectively and professionally with residents, community leaders, political leaders, media, students, faculty, and staff.
- Excellent organizational skills, facilitation skills, and attention to detail.
- Community development and engagement experience
- Fundraising experience
- Grant-writing experience
- Proven ability to work independently and lead a team.
- Understanding of political policy and the political context of Ogden, Northern Utah, and the state of Utah.
