Purpose Statement:
Developing bilingual students' ability to effectively navigate courses of study in the English language by implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; providing methods to support and/or reinforce classroom goals in the home; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; developing lesson plans and instructional techniques; evaluating students level of English fluency and providing feedback to students, parents and administration about student progress, expectations, goals, etc
Requirements:
- Strong content knowledge
- Ability to make connections with students through words and actions
- Ability to set up and support a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment
- Knowledgeable of the DESE Blueprint for English Learner Success
- Knowledgeable of the WIDA assessment system
- Understand the essential components of a district-wide ELL program
Major Areas of Accountability:
- Teach according to curriculum guidelines specified by the school district
- Maintain ongoing curriculum evaluation and program evaluation development to meet the needs of students
- Offers direction to instructional aides and classroom teachers in the implementation of evidence-based instructional approaches
- Implement curriculum and instruction consistent with District's mission statement
- Serves as a district-wide resource to staff and families regarding English language development and best practices
- Show empathy for and understanding of students
- Share ideas and observations with students, parents and colleagues
- Develop with parents and students a cooperative partnership based on mutual respect and objectivity
- Collaborates with district and building staff to support translation and implementation of resources in home languages
- Facilitate resolution of problems that might arise with students and parents
- Formally and informally assess student performance often and objectively
- Continue intellectual and professional development
- Instructs bilingual students for success in academics and skills
- Models proper English communication for developing students' ability to communicate effectively in the English language
- Follow guidance and policies established by the Board of Education
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Missouri Teacher Certification - ELL or ESL Endorsement
