Fiber Optic Splicer

Job Summary:
The Fiber Optic Splicer at Wecom Fiber plays a crucial role in the installation, splicing, and maintenance of fiber optic cables to support telecommunications infrastructure projects. Expertise in fiber optic splicing, testing, and troubleshooting will ensure the reliable performance of fiber optic networks and services in various locations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform fiber optic cable splicing, termination, and testing activities to establish and maintain fiber optic connectivity in telecommunications projects.
- Utilize fusion splicing equipment, cleavers, and fiber management techniques to ensure precise and reliable fiber optic splices and terminations.
- Conduct optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) testing, insertion loss measurements, and quality checks to verify signal integrity and performance of fiber optic connections.
- Troubleshoot fiber optic network issues, identify fiber breaks, attenuation, and signal loss, and implement corrective actions to restore network functionality.
- Maintain accurate splice logs, documentation, and fiber maps to record splicing activities, test results, and network configurations for reference and future maintenance.
- Collaborate with engineering teams, project managers, and field technicians to coordinate splicing schedules, prioritize tasks, and support fiber optic installation projects.
- Adhere to safety protocols, industry standards, and best practices for fiber optic splicing, handling of fiber optic equipment, and working in telecommunications environments.
- Utilize fusion splicers, cleavers, and fiber optic tools to perform fusion splicing, mechanical splicing, and connectorization of fiber optic cables.
- Interpret fiber optic network designs, splice plans, and OTDR traces to ensure accurate fiber optic splicing, route identification, and signal continuity.
- Handle fiber optic connectors, splices, pigtails, and splice closures with precision, cleanliness, and attention to detail to maintain signal integrity and reliability.
- Conduct fiber optic cable preparation, stripping, cleaning, and dressing to ensure proper fiber alignment, fusion splicing, and termination.
- Follow fiber optic safety procedures, PPE requirements, and industry standards for fiber optic splicing, testing, and network installations.
- Collaborate with telecommunications teams, contractors, and stakeholders to address splicing challenges, resolve technical issues, and ensure project objectives are met.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; certification in fiber optic splicing, telecommunications, or related field is preferred.
- Proven experience as a Fiber Optic Splicer in the telecommunications and fiber industry, with proficiency in fusion splicing, testing, and troubleshooting fiber optic networks.
- Strong technical knowledge of fiber optic splicing equipment, fiber management techniques, and OTDR testing for telecommunications projects.
- Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently or collaboratively in a dynamic telecommunications environment.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and adaptability to work in diverse project settings, follow project specifications, and meet quality standards.
- Availability for travel and on-site work in various locations to support telecommunications projects and fiber optic splicing activities as needed.
