Position Overview
The Supplier Development Specialist is responsible for developing and qualifying suppliers of components and outsourced services and improving supplier quality management.
Main Responsibilities
- Proposal, development, and integration of supplier development and improvement processes.
- Partner with suppliers where quality or delivery performance or business risks require robust review and action.
- Conduct initial Supplier Site Assessments (SSA) to evaluate new suppliers.
- Perform assessments and audits where necessary.
- Develop supplier improvement plans and coordinate milestones and completion of actions.
- Functions as a liaison between suppliers and internal functions/plants (engineering, quality, operations, etc.) to clarify requirements, facilitate communication and drive accountability.
- Identify, develop, and implement cost reduction opportunities within the supply chain.
- Partner cross-functionally for component standardization.
- Develop negotiation strategies for productive materials, which encompass commercial and technical negotiations, coordinating (technically) negotiations with the purpose of optimizing costs; Participate together with the supply areas in the analysis and development of an action plan to mitigate supply risks.
- Monitor alternative product purchased on an emergency basis from unregistered suppliers.
- Develop and improve the supplier qualification system, aiming to select suppliers that meet the outlined requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management, engineering, or related discipline required. Experience in lieu of education may be considered.
- At least 3 years of experience in development, qualification, and management of external suppliers strongly preferred.
- Previous procurement experience in a manufacturing environment helpful.
- Familiarity with inventory management and ERP systems desired; Prior SAP Experience preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of office tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities required.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail required.
- Understand and apply safe working practices.
- Must be able to frequently sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
