Location: Richfield, MN – on-site 5 days per week during regular business hours

Status: Full-time, Permanent

Annual Salary: $130,000 - $150,000, depending on experience.

Job Summary:


The IT Director is responsible for leading and optimizing the daily IT operations, ensuring that all technology systems, services, and support structures align with business objectives. This role provides strategic input on technology initiatives while maintaining hands-on oversight of infrastructure, help desk, user provisioning, security, and vendor management. The IT Director also collaborates closely with other senior leaders to drive continuous improvement and deliver reliable, secure technology solutions. The IT Director currently has three direct reports, and reports to the CIO.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Leadership
    • Oversee day-to-day IT operations, including help desk, infrastructure, and user support services for approximately 350 end users across multiple companies and locations.
    • Develop and enforce operational policies, procedures, and best practices to maintain high service levels.
  • User Provisioning & Support
    • Oversee the provisioning and deprovisioning of user accounts, devices, and access rights.
    • Day-to-day management of hardware lifecycle and inventory.
    • Implement tools and processes (e.g., automation, self-service) to streamline onboarding, offboarding, and hardware refreshes.
    • Track help desk metrics (e.g., response times, resolution rates) to continuously improve user satisfaction.
  • Site Provisioning & Support
    • Assist with low voltage and technology planning for properties, temporary construction offices, and business offices.
    • Coordinate installation and commissioning of technology at properties, temporary construction offices, and business offices.
  • Team Management
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of IT professionals.
    • Conduct regular performance reviews, set goals, and support ongoing training and professional development.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and customer-centric service.
  • Infrastructure & Cloud Services
    • Manage on-premises infrastructure (servers, networks, backups) and oversee cloud-based environments (e.g., Microsoft 365).
    • Ensure systems are optimally configured, secure, and regularly updated.
    • Oversee planning and execution of system upgrades, migrations, and integrations.
  • Security
    • Collaborate with company leadership and third-party resources to develop and enforce security policies.
    • Implement and maintain security measures to protect data and systems.
  • Vendor Management
    • Manage relationships with selected third-party vendors, service providers, and consultants to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Strategic Collaboration & Project Management
    • Provide input on long-term technology strategies and roadmaps, balancing day-to-day operational needs with future growth.
    • Oversee the successful completion of IT projects—from concept through implementation—ensuring objectives are met on time and within budget.
  • Continuous Improvement & Innovation
    • Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices; recommend initiatives to enhance security, efficiency and productivity.
    • Drive process improvements that reduce complexity and improve user experience.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years of experience in IT operations, with at least 2 years in a leadership role that includes direct reports.
  • Proven track record of managing IT infrastructure, service management, and security in a multi-location environment.
  • Experience with these specific platforms/systems is required:
    • Microsoft On-prem Active Directory
    • Microsoft 365 and Azure AD
    • Microsoft Intune and Autopilot
    • IPv4 networking concepts and hardware
    • Structured cabling concepts
    • Intel/Microsoft server hardware
    • Server virtualization
  • Experience with these specific platforms/systems is optional:
    • Apple hardware (tablets)
    • Cloud telephony (e.g., RingCentral)
    • Fortinet
    • Hyper-V
    • Druva
  • Communications skills: effective in a variety of presentation settings and demonstrates excellent professional verbal, written and listening skills.
  • Customer service: commitment to provide exceptional customer service, both internally and externally.
  • Decision making: able to make strong, well documented decisions in a timely manner.
  • Organizational skills: able to manage resources (materials, support) to support projects and support incidents to successful conclusion. Able to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Results oriented: bottom-line driven and can be counted on to exceed goals successfully.

Working Conditions:

  • Travel required up to 10%
  • Majority of job performed in an office environment, frequent use of personal computer and other office equipment. Occasional work on construction sites that requires protective equipment that conforms to OSHA regulations.
