The VP, Medical Affairs Strategy reports to our Chief Medical Officer and is a partner to our Medical Affairs Operations team. This position will define and develop Medical Affairs Strategy and serve as the medical lead for post-marketing research in eyecare. The VP, Medical Affairs Strategy will be our internal subject matter expert across all functions and have high external visibility as a medical, scientific and clinical peer-resource to our healthcare provider community, and also oversees Scientific & Medical Communications and strategy development for disease education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the functional lead for Medical Affairs Strategy and showcase excellence in strategy, innovation and execution.
- Develop and lead Tarsus medical strategies and project execution in conjunction with CMO based on needs and insights from eyecare providers.
- Serve as a disease state and product expert and provide critical input into the identification of new product opportunities and strategic direction.
- Partner with the Compliance and Legal departments to ensure that appropriate systems and processes are in place to meet all regulatory/legal requirements related to Medical Affairs.
- Provide cross-functional medical and scientific guidance and consultation to colleagues for the implementation of regulatory approval strategies and clinical assessment and resolution of product risks.
- Ensure and oversee the development of clear and well communicated medical strategies for our product that can be used to guide development of robust medical plans that support patient access and improve patient outcomes.
- Build partnerships and relationships with the scientific and medical community. Represent Tarsus with the CMO externally in scientific presentations, conferences and industry groups.
- Oversee the planning, development, execution and reporting of all post-marketing research.
- Interact with key members of the medical community to assist in understanding current practice issues and other disease states of interest, including identifying, developing and maintaining effective optimal relationships with Key Opinion Leaders.
- Oversee the interpretation, publication, and accurate use of scientific data, and the development of scientific content for investigator-initiated research, publications, medical communication and scientific education initiatives.
- Oversee a detailed Medical response platform to address any medically related stakeholder inquiries.
- Build and maintain relationships with medical societies, optometry schools and systems of care.
- Lead discussions at and develop content for medical advisory boards.
- Ensure compliant HCP interactions per company and PhRMA guidelines.
- Partner with our National Field Sales Director to develop field strategy, including key initiatives and insights gathering, and be a resource for our MSL field team.
- Oversee ophthalmology and optometry KOL/external expert engagement plans.
- Lead medical conference strategy and planning, attend conferences to provide scientific expertise and collaborate with ECPs.
- Lead the collection and dissemination of data and insights from conferences.
Lead cross-functional collaborations
- Assist clinical team with clinical site selection, study design, outcomes measurements and data analysis.
- Provide expertise and guidance to pharmacovigilance activities.
- Be the medical lead for cross-functional collaborations including clinical operations, market access, sales and marketing.
- Partner with sales training to be the “on-site medical expert” for any commercial training needs.
- Review promotional and non-promotional materials for the commercial and medical teams respectively.
- Be an integral part of the launch-readiness team, providing ideas and guidance as a medical leader to ensure successful launch.

Factors for Success:
- 15 years minimum of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry or in an eye care clinical setting, with proven work experience as a leader of medical affairs organizations or proven relevant and transferrable work experience
- OD or MD/DO with specialization in ophthalmology strongly preferred.
- Strong leadership skills, ability to inspire and motivate others, and collaborate cross-functionally.
- Demonstrated track record of successful product launches and/or product management.
- Solid background and experience in drug development and life-cycle development of related products.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
- Ability to lead business and technical discussions internally and externally and explain scientific/medical concepts to all levels.
- Strong understanding of how to optimize development of a drug for commercialization based upon unmet medical needs and asset value.
- Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders in the relevant fields.
- Ability to establish trust through the consistent demonstration of scientific expertise and satisfactory follow-through on requests from key opinion leaders.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to independently prioritize own work.
- Strong sense of urgency and responsiveness to all levels of the organization.
- Attention to detail in analyses, deliverables and communications.
- Strong presentation and communication skills; must be able to provide succinct, strategic, and actionable insights to senior executives.
- A proactive self-starter who can lead work and manage others independently, with the ability to see the next step and take action without prompting.
- Ability to juggle multiple projects.

The expected base pay range for this position is $288,700 - $404,300 plus bonus, stock equity, and comprehensive benefits. The base pay range reflects the target range for this position, but individual pay will be determined by additional factors such as job-related skills, experience and relevant education or training.
