Let’s talk about some of the key responsibilities of the role:

The VP, Medical Affairs Operations reports to our Chief Medical Officer and is a partner to our Medical Affairs Strategy team. This position oversees Field Medical, Medical Affairs Training, Medical Operations and Analytics and Medical Education Initiatives. This role is responsible for ensuring effective, efficient and compliant medical affairs training, customer-facing interactions and field intelligence gathering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Medical Affairs Operations organization, develop and evolve the operational direction of the Medical Affairs function across, in order to support growth in our key focus areas.
  • Develop strong cross-functional relationships to ensure that the Medical Affairs Operations align with key corporate objectives.
  • Partner with the Compliance and Legal departments to ensure that appropriate systems and processes are in place to meet all regulatory/legal requirements related to Medical Affairs.
  • Collaborate with the commercial team to create and support with the proper medical messaging for alignment with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance to the field medical team, which is comprised of top tier Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs).
  • Drive development of medical materials to facilitate product launch and product uptake.
  • Identify and manage relationships with external advocacy partners.
  • Oversee medical sponsorship and grants program.
  • Oversee learning engagements and key opinion leader meetings at major meetings and conferences.
  • Participate in the collection and exchange of scientific/technical information important to development efforts.
  • Evaluate key competitive medical information to aid the clinical and marketing teams in product development.
  • Participate in advisory boards and medical education programs and positively represent the Company at major meetings and conferences.
  • Maintain a comprehensive and current understanding of relevant markets and act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) in areas of responsibility as required.
  • Manage Medical Affairs Operations budget and effort allocation to ensure key clinical activities are supported.
  • Ensure deliverables meet or exceed service-level expectations for quality, timeliness, and budget.
  • Introduce innovative approaches to business problems and lead key initiatives.

Factors for Success:

  • Advanced degree strongly preferred (MD, PhD or PharmD).
  • 15 years of pharmaceutical industry experience in medical affairs.
  • Strong leadership skills, ability to inspire and motivate others, and collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Preferably experience with both drug and medical devices.
  • Demonstrated track record of successful product launches and/or product management. 
  • Solid background and experience in drug development and life-cycle development of related products.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
  • Ability to lead business and technical discussions internally and externally and explain scientific/medical concepts to all levels.
  • Strong understanding of how to optimize development of a drug for commercialization based upon unmet medical needs and asset value.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders in the relevant fields.
  • Ability to establish trust through the consistent demonstration of scientific expertise and satisfactory follow-through on requests from key opinion leaders.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to independently prioritize own work.
  • Strong sense of urgency and responsiveness to all levels of the organization.
  • Attention to detail in analyses, deliverables and communications.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills; must be able to provide succinct, strategic, and actionable insights to senior executives.
  • A proactive self-starter who can lead work and manage others independently, with the ability to see the next step and take action without prompting.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects.

  • The position will be based in our beautiful Irvine office, complete with a courtyard, table tennis, snacks and drinks, and occasional catered meals. We provide a hybrid work environment [Remote work is an option.]

  • Travel may be required – up to 60%

At Tarsus, we understand the importance of attracting and retaining top talent. The expected base pay range for this position is $288,700 - $404,300 plus bonus, stock equity, and comprehensive benefits. The base pay range reflects the target range for this position, but individual pay will be determined by additional factors such as job-related skills, experience and relevant education or training.
