The Building Security/Engineer is responsible for performing a variety of routine semi-skilled and skilled work related to building security, maintenance, and equipment operation. The Building Security/Engineer is responsible for the overall security of property and equipment. The Building Security/Engineer response to alarms and emergencies, will contact Police and or fire department. The Building Security/Engineer contacts Facilities staff to address afterhours emergencies and snow removal. The Building Security/Engineer takes steps to mitigate emergency situations to include shutting off utilities, barricading areas, manually locking and securing buildings, vehicles, storage units, and property. This position remains alert and attentive at all times and will walk mechanical areas and buildings to ensure safety and security. This individual will report directly to the Security Coordinator.

What you will do
Field Duties - 50%
- Perform building and vehicle security checks to ensure county property is locked and secure after normal business hours, including when dark, to include deterrence patrols between checks.
- Arm / disarm alarms, check alarms, clear, and cancel alarms, and when necessary, contact and assist law enforcement, to include proper documentation and notification.
- Monitor the operation of building HVAC systems, chemical water treatment, pneumatic control, refrigeration equipment, and fire suppression equipment, after normal business hours, to include accurate documentation and notification.
- Operate a Weld County vehicle to visit multiple Weld County Building and locations to assess security and equipment.
- Report fire alarms and assist fire department.
- Perform snow removal operations using shovels, scrapers, blowers, utility vehicle, and or tractors as needed.
- Operate machinery to include forklift, sweeper, table saw, and other power and hand tools.
- Perform light maintenance to include turning off water (to buildings, sinks, drinking fountains, and toilets), painting building surfaces, changing lights, boarding up broken windows, securing doors, and other maintenance duties as needed.
- Work alongside Custodial and other Facilities Crews for the purpose of maintaining and keeping county property operational, including times of emergencies.
- Monitor and walk mechanical rooms and critical infrastructure during inclement weather or as directed. Report deficiencies and concerns to appropriate personnel.
- Routinely check vehicles, storage containers and building for security.
- Perform troubleshooting on county property and equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to learn where problems in system are or could occur.
- Work with other county departments collaboratively in emergency and after-hours maintenance and security needs.
- Determine if police, fire, and other emergency services are required, and contact immediately to resolve problems.
- Monitor security systems and cameras.
- Create reports for incidents and update logs, spreadsheets, to include tracking weather and documenting building checks.
- Monitors security cameras and reports suspicious activity to appropriate personnel.
- Assist with training other staff in duties described above.
- Adjusts work schedule as needed to respond to emergency situations.
- Follows media and social media to anticipate appropriate response to protests, public gatherings, and events.
- Performs office work to include report writing, spreadsheet statistics, snow removal data, and building checks.
- High School Diploma/GED
- 2 years related experience and/or training in building maintenance and security or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Ability to communicate using Excel, Outlook, phone calls, text messages, radios, and person to person dialog. (High proficiency)
- Ability to safely operate a vehicle in routine, diverse weather, and at night. (High proficiency)
