Building Custodian
Terms of Employment
Full time position - 260 days (depending on start date) 8 hours per day. Pay per Classified Salary Schedule - Category III ($16.74-$25.56) to be determined by qualifications and experience. This position qualifies for benefits. The District provides its employees with a comprehensive benefits program including medical, life, and dental insurance. The District provides two medical plans for which it pays the full premium for employees, and a fourth option is a buy-up plan for which the district pays the majority of the premium. In addition, the District pays the full employee premium for dental insurance and life insurance. The District contributes to PERA on each employee's behalf and offers additional retirement savings options as well as optional supplemental insurance. Employees also receive paid time off. Worker’s compensation and unemployment insurance are provided in accordance with State law. This position qualifies for paid leave: 4 annual leave days, 7 sick leave days and 10 vacation days (leave days will be prorated depending on start date.)
Position Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the Custodial Manager, the Building Custodian is responsible for maintaining, cleaning, and disinfecting all areas of a building. Perform basic cleaning, sanitation, and minor maintenance of an assigned building and associated grounds including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, polishing, trash removal, etc. Secure building at all times to ensure a safe school and working environment. Provide high level customer service for school events and community activities including set-up/clean-up

Essential Performance Responsibilities
- Perform custodial duties such as cleaning, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, polishing and trash removal of classrooms, offices, cafeterias, computer labs, break rooms, bathrooms, locker rooms, hallways, entryways, gymnasiums, weight rooms and other areas of a facility including exterior grounds. Guide students and staff in the care and use of the facility.
- Interact with and assist students, staff, visitors and groups during and after regular school hours to ensure needs are met regarding building use. Provide set up, tear down and cleaning after activities. Respond to requests, last-minute needs, unscheduled events, changes, etc. regarding building use. Move and set up furniture and equipment as requested. Deliver supplies throughout the building.
- Secure facility by locking doors, windows, and setting alarms. Monitor building security throughout the shift.
- Report supply and equipment needs to the Lead Custodian. Perform daily preventative maintenance of site custodial equipment.
- Ensure proper use, identification, mixture and application of chemicals, including the requirements and use of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Monitor and inspect building facility for safety and cleanliness. Maintain and make minor repairs to facility and troubleshoot and report areas requiring maintenance to supervisor.
- Notify building supervisor of hazardous or harmful situations.
- Remove snow and ice from sidewalks as needed to ensure safe egress to and from the building.
- Perform special cleaning and assist with renovation projects. Operate large cleaning equipment and assist with floor maintenance and restoration as needed.
- Respond as essential personnel in case of an emergency, weather or environmental event, and/or school/facility/district closure.
- Attend work and arrive in a timely manner
- Perform other duties as assigned
