SPED Teacher - Affective Needs (Middle School)
Terms of Employment
Full-time, 187 days (Depending on start date). Salary is based on education and experience and will be prorated per our Certified Salary Schedule not to exceed letter I ($50,000-$79,770).
The District provides its employees with a comprehensive benefits program including medical, life, and dental insurance. The District provides two medical plans for which it pays the full premium for employees, and a third option is a buy-up plan for which the district pays the majority of the premium. In addition, the District pays the full employee premium for dental insurance and life insurance. Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal and/or Director of Special Education or designee. The teacher is responsible for the academic and social/emotional/behavioral instruction in a center-based setting and/or the general education setting with children who have behavioral challenges/disabilities.
Essential Functions
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Director of Special Education.

Essential Functions
- Able to communicate effectively with the principal, staff, students, and families of Roosevelt Middle School.
- Able to work with the teaching staff, and administration in promoting the educational development of each student’s total educational experience.
- Prepares lessons in advance for all assigned classes; provides written lesson plans to the principal upon request.
- Modifies and adjusts curriculum (as appropriate) to meet remedial and/or enrichment needs of students; coordinates curriculum with regular education teachers as needed (may include co-teaching sections).
- Demonstrates effective use of paraprofessionals in the classroom and in any setting, including a coordinated team approach to meet the unique needs of students and to manage classroom behaviors.
- Maintains classroom management techniques to ensure the safety and security of students and staff.
- Provides support and instruction for students across settings in areas that include but are not limited to behavioral intervention, guidance and emotional support, development of life skills and academics.
- Collaborates/communicates effectively and consistently with all members of school-based multidisciplinary team on a regular basis.
- Works with the building School Psychologist and/or Director of Special Education to implement IEP process.
- Attends IEP meetings, completes testing, and participates in the IEP process in conjunction with state and federal requirements. Communicates IEP goals and objectives with regular education teachers and other education staff; tracks progress. Completes all IEP documents as directed by the special education department.
- Keeps accurate and timely student records, completes Quarterly Academic Progress Reports within prescribed timelines, and shares the necessary progress reports with families as identified within the IEP.
- Maintains a professional relationship with parents and guardians of the students.
- Maintains behavior charting systems to monitor student behavior change regularly.
- Assists with developing and implementing behavior intervention plans.
- Maintains up to date certification in CPI.

Qualifications Profile
Certification/License
- Colorado State Certification as a Teacher endorsed in Special Education Generalist or Special Education – Severe Needs – Affective or show highly qualified status.
- Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
- Must be able to complete the CPI course and become certified (District provides the training)
- Colorado READ Act Endorsement/Designation
Education
- Bachelors or Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in Special Education Generalist or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment
Experience
- Preferred experience working with students who have Autism, Twice Exceptional, Serious Emotional Disability, other disabilities, and/or behavior
- Successful prior teaching experience is preferred but not required
