The Weld County Youth Conservation Corps AmeriCorps program operates out of Employment Services of Weld County in Greeley, Colorado. The primary focus of Crew members includes environmental stewardship, conservation/restoration practices, community improvement and engagement, and education advancement and exploration. Opportunities for participation exist on a year-round basis, offering youth entry-level experience in the form of a crew-based model.

Corps Member: Conservation Crew Member - Environmental Educator
Location: Employment Services of Weld County, Greeley, Colorado
AmeriCorps living allowance: $2,600 monthly living stipend, disbursement on the 15th and last day of the month.
Time Commitment: 40 hours/week, Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
· Alternative schedules may be considered for project specific requirements and certain training opportunities.
Season Dates: February 17th, 2025 – November, 2025
AmeriCorps Benefits: County Holidays off, Chainsaw operator certification, First Aid/CPR/AED certification, student loan forbearance, $3,697.50 Segal Education Award following completion of 900-hour service.

Service Position Summary:
Service term will begin with the Conservation Crew serving side-by-side with a crew leader gaining crew management experience while completing projects in a variety of weather conditions and terrain. The Environmental Educator (EE) will have the opportunity to learn how to run a chainsaw and assist with invasive tree species removal, handle and apply pesticide, and have the possibility of participating in the WCYC Flush and Flow program. By June 1st, this position becomes multi-functional – directly engaging all Corps Members as an educator and assisting each crew with their ongoing projects. The Environmental Educator will have the flexibility to implement their own lesson plans while encouraging “hands on” participation and learning of young adults ages 14-30. The WCYCC is seeking enthusiastic individuals who relate well with a wide range of personalities representing diverse backgrounds. Education should be focused on resources most important to Weld County communities, inspiring a new perspective and interest in the environmental impact of our society.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Transporting crews to and from the project site/field trip location
- Promote activity engagement while encouraging the development of teambuilding, self-worth, conflict resolution, effective communication, goal setting, decision making, and respect for the environment
- Pesticide application
- In-home water assessments, installation of aerators, shower heads, and toilets
- Facilitate teambuilding activities and environmental education curriculum on a weekly basis, or as projects determine appropriate
- Abide by WCYCC policies and procedures and maintain safety
- Coordinate logistics with Program Supervisor and Crew Leaders to complete lessons and activities
- Provide guidance and leadership to a crew of 8-10 corps members on a consistent basis, efficiently facilitating various environmental education lessons and activities
- Invasive species and hazard tree removal as a sawyer and/or a swamper
Knowledge Of:
- Basic knowledge of conservation techniques/methods, outdoor or environmental education, environmental stewardship practices, etc.
- Group dynamics and personality management in a classroom or field setting
Ability To:
- Serve in unpredictable weather and harsh environmental conditions
- Implement team building activities, environmental education, and life skills
- Communicate effectively with fellow corps members, crew leader, program staff, and community members
- Problem solve in a variety of settings and with a diverse group of people
- Ensure crew members represent themselves and the program in a positive way
- Service term may require attendance during the evenings and weekends as necessary (Camping for 3 weeks)
Qualifications:
MUST BE 18- 30 YEARS OLD TO APPLY
- Willing to undergo and must pass required criminal history checks
- Possess a valid state driver’s license or identification card
- Must be able to pass a drug screening
- U.S. citizen, U.S. National, or lawful permanent resident
- Received or on track to receive high school diploma or GED
- Have reliable transportation to and from service base
Experience:
- One year serving with youth in outdoor/environmental education field preferred, but not required
- Preferred experience towing equipment and driving a vehicle with multiple passengers
- Previous experience in a team environment providing leadership and direct oversight
- Conflict resolution facilitation in a group setting
- Performing conservation-related service, or general labor tasks
- Comfortable with power tools and serving in a hazardous environment
Physical Requirements:
- Able to lift 75 lbs.
- Ability to use/handle picks, sledgehammers, rakes, and shovels
- Ability to transverse uneven terrain
- Ability to bend, stoop, stretch, twist, or to squat to perform tasks
- Service term will require strenuous physical engagement, personal motivation, and perseverance
