Engineering Draftsman

Summary of The Position

This position is responsible for initiating, coordinating, and maintaining all the necessary drafting activities for the development of required drawings and other pertinent information that is to be supplied to the production departments to complete unit construction.

Serve as liaison between engineering and production to perform any necessary revisions to drawings and improve the accuracy of the relevant information. Ensure drawings/designs are verified and validated. Maintain proper control of drawings/engineering documents to include filing system of current and archive drawing and other pertinent information.

Upon completion of the container prototypes the responsibilities of the position will expand to include documentation for new and existing trailers, ISO containers, chassis, manifolds, new designs for trailers, sales proposals, and marketing support. To conduct purchasing functions for special projects/parts.

Responsibilities of The Position

• Review and comprehend the design of, and sizes of pressure vessels and what products are carried by these pressure vessels in their use as transportation equipment both domestic and internationally.
• Assist engineering to identify quality, safety and documentation requirements during the design process and identify such information on work orders to be carried out by the production activities and ensure work orders are complete.
• Assist engineering to identify in-process, final etc. inspection criteria and ensure adherence to QA program and customer requirements throughout the process.
• Develop an understanding of the compressed gas industry and associated specialty gas and chemical business. Become familiar with the transportation equipment used, the various piping, manifolding, valve, safety relief devices, and other systems for the purpose of preparing drawings, designs, bill of materials, specifications, etc. for shop support, sales support, for process or completed customer equipment packages.
• Complete verification and validation on all drawings/designs to ensure conformity to customer requirements and governing regulations.
• Implementation of a design for several styles of specialized containers used for international transportation of pressure vessels. Utilizing A-Cad for design and drafting work.
• Assist in the certification of welders.
• Ensure proper material ordering and assist in proper receiving, inspection, storage and fabrication methods for construction of containers.
• Assist Engineering to develop fabrication methods and coordinate the fabrication of all units along with the design and fabrication of fixtures to be used to construct the units.
• To assist and identify the proper combination of parts to maintain compliance with codes, regulatory/industry specifications and safety requirements concerning type of service and unit construction.
• Develop, maintain and expand a CAD based library of symbols, item designs and drawings to facilitate and expedite the design, construction and sales activities of Weldship.
• Maintain a strong presence and liaison with all manufacturing departments. Tour departments daily and review drawings/specifications to ensure conformity to design and customer requirements and identify improvements.
• Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Exp. in AutoCAD 2015 (mechanical), Inventor, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat. Structural/Industrial manufacturing, P&ID’s drafting / modeling, document control/manuals

Supervisory Responsibility

This role does not have supervisory responsibility.

Work Environment

The performance of this position requires exposure to the manufacturing areas that require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields, safety shoes, hard hats, and mandatory hearing protection. The employee will be exposed to seasonal temperatures in the production environment but will also work in ambient room temperatures, with lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.

Physical Demands

Individuals may need to sit, stand, and traverse stairs as needed. The position may require walking primarily on a level surface for periodic periods throughout the day. The employee may reach above shoulder heights or below the waist or lift as required to file documents or store materials throughout the workday. Proper lifting techniques are required.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5 PM

Travel

Travel is not required as part of this position.

Required Education and Experience

• Associate’s degree in a technical discipline or technical education in drafting
• Experience in mechanical drafting
• Full knowledge in AutoCAD and inventor

Work Authorization

• Authorized to work in the United States
• Able to pass criminal background check
• Able to pass drug test
