What are the responsibilities and job description for the Porter position at Wellbridge Addiction Treatment and Research?
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. The porter is a vital member of the staff within a health care facility. The porter must be versatile and skilled in a number of areas. The porter is expected to be capable of completing daily cleaning routines in resident rooms (see Housekeeper duties and responsibilities) as well as hallways, dining areas, lobbies, sitting areas and offices.
2. The porter is responsible for maintenance and care of resilient and non-resilient floors within a facility as follows:
- Daily dust mopping and damp mopping of resilient tile floors.
- Vacuuming & shampooing of various types of carpeting.
- Periodic buffing and burnishing of waxed tile floors.
- Stripping & refinishing of resilient tile floors.
3. The porter is responsible for completing assigned project work as directed by the Executive Housekeeper including areas such as wall washing, comer and edge cleaning, wheelchair cleaning, med-cart cleaning, etc....
4. In some instances, the porter may also be responsible for outside work as the need arises.
5. The porter may also be responsible for the transportation and delivery of either soiled or clean linen.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. The ability to follow oral & written instructions is essential.
2. The ability to follow detailed daily assignments and project assignments as instructed by the Executive Housekeeper.
3. The ability to clean and sanitize areas of the facility as assigned.
4. The ability to identify and use cleaning solutions and chemicals properly.
5. The ability to lift IO to 15 lb. buckets of water from the floor to a raised sink a minimum of 15 times per day.
6. The ability to push or pull housekeeping carts and equipment weighing up to 40 lbs. throughout the facility as well as in and out of elevators.
7. The ability to bend at the knees, waist and neck up to 75 times per day.
8. The ability to sweep and mop in a side-to-side motion for periods of 3–20 minutes as many as 25 times per day.
9. The ability to push and pull 50 lb. trash or soiled linen hampers safely in an out of elevators and throughout hallways.
10. The ability to lift bags of trash or soiled linen, weighing 20 to 30 lbs., a minimum of 20 times per day.
11. The ability to handle and mix chemicals following exact dilution ratios.
12. The ability to understand basic infection control procedures.
13. Must be able to respond to a verbal paging system in an appropriate manner.
14. Must be capable of operating the necessary equipment to satisfy job requirements:
- Wet/Dry vacuums
- Commercial carpet extraction machinery & vacuum cleaners.
- High & Low speed buffing machines
- High speed burnishing machines
15. Must be capable of functioning with minimal supervision.
16. Must be able to deal with residents, family members and facility staff in a professional and appropriate manner.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The porter within a health care facility spends the majority of their day standing, walking, bending and reaching in order to perform the necessary functions associated with the position. He/she must interact with people and be courteous and professional at all times. Must be cautious and safety conscience at all times to prevent unnecessary injury. Must exhibit proper techniques while performing all assigned duties. The porter is directly supervised by the Executive Housekeeper, and in some cases the Assistant Executive Housekeeper, but must be able to work independently on a daily basis.
