What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cash Application Specialist position at Wellington?
We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Cash Applications Specialist to join our Finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately applying incoming payments to customer accounts, resolving discrepancies, and maintaining the integrity of the accounts receivable ledger. Your work will directly impact our cash flow and financial reporting accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately apply customer payments (ACH, wire transfers, checks, credit cards) to the appropriate invoices and accounts in the ERP system
- Research and resolve unapplied payments, short pays, overpayments, and payment discrepancies
- Communicate with internal teams (collections, billing, sales) to resolve payment issues
- Maintain organized records of transactions and ensure timely processing of daily cash receipts
- Support month-end closing by reconciling accounts and providing necessary documentation
- Process and reconcile customer refunds or adjustments when necessary
- Respond to customer inquiries related to payments or account balances
- Continuously look for ways to improve payment processing efficiency and accuracy
Requirements
- Proven experience in cash applications, accounts receivable, or general accounting
- Strong understanding of financial systems and ERP software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, etc.)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
