Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Commercial Real Estate Underwriter who, in coordination with our screening and closing teams, will be responsible for processing and analyzing loan requests with a focus on GSE transactions. This position will focus on the following product types: Conventional Multifamily, Affordable Multifamily, Seniors Housing, Student Housing, and Manufactured Housing.
The Lead Commercial Real Estate Underwriter supports our focus on building strong customer relationships balanced with a strong risk mitigating and compliance-driven culture which firmly establishes those disciplines as critical to the success of our customers and company. They are accountable for execution of all applicable risk programs (Credit, Market, Financial Crimes, Operational, Regulatory Compliance), which includes effectively following and adhering to applicable Wells Fargo policies and procedures, appropriately fulfilling risk and compliance obligations, timely and effective escalation and remediation of issues, and making sound risk decisions.
There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit's risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.

$120,400.00 - $287,600.00

In This Role, You Will
- Collect and review required financial and compliance documents and complete preliminary analysis of credit for MFC clients for the processing of multifamily GSE (Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac)
- Prepare the underwriting diligence package and works closely with the client to obtain underwriting documentation ensuring it meets Bank and GSE requirements
- Coordination of the various Bank and GSE required compliance checks and reviews
- Perform property/site inspections, when needed
- Conduct preliminary analysis of credit of borrowers and sponsors
- Maintain a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae loan processing guidelines and requirements
- Build and maintain strong relationship with various partners both throughout Multifamily Capital and, more broadly, the Wells Fargo Commercial Real Estate (CRE) business line as well as our GSE partners.
- Work closely with other bank groups for any referral transactions and asset management for portfolio transactions.
- Ability to read third party reports and extracting pertinent information to provide to key deal participants.
- Lead contact for insurance review and collecting/distributing information to appropriate participants.
- Work with compliance groups to gather closing checklist items.
- Prepare GSE post close documentation requirements.
- Mentor, training, or shadowing responsibilities for junior analyst.
- Working on more complicated transactions or portfolios and credit facilities.
- 5 years of Commercial Real Estate Underwriting experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- 5 years of agency lending and underwriting experience evaluating complex loan structures
- Leadership capabilities with experience in training, and mentoring
- Demonstrated experience in banking or credit environments, including risk assessment and credit analysis.
- Experience in collecting and reviewing documentation, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with legal and policy requirements.
- Exceptional analytical, communication and presentation skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, environment by effectively prioritizing tasks, managing competing deadlines, and maintaining strong attention to deal without compromising quality or accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment while demonstrating strong independent thinking skills
- Ability to provide strong customer service while balancing the needs of clients, shareholders, and team members
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills
- A BS/BA degree or higher
- Ability to travel up to 10%
- Ability to work additional hours as needed
