Facilitates understanding in communication between healthcare providers and individuals speaking different languages and of different cultures. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Facilitates communication between healthcare providers and limited-English speaking or non-English speaking patients in accurate and timely manner. Provides efficient medical interpretation services for patients, families and staff. Assesses patient/family comprehension of "informed consent" as needed. Advises physician/patient care staff of need for clarification. Arranges interpretation for all languages for patients and families through language line/other resources. 45%
- Serves as cultural consultant to staff and as advocate for non-English speaking patients/families. Assesses and monitors patient understandings of information conveyed and keeps physicians/nurses informed as to level of that understanding. Suggests referrals to medical staff, clinical social workers, patient advocate staff, chaplains and ancillary staff. 15%
- Responds to phone calls from non-English speaking callers and triages and orients caller for proper assistance inside or outside health system. Maintains/reports on-time statistical data for continued monitoring and enhancement of services. Ensures access to hospital resources for non-English speaking patients and their families. 15%
- Provides education on Interpretation Services to include CLAS standards and working with trained interpreters. Conducts in-services and consultations relating to medical interpretation/translation, health cultural practice or pertinent issues with medical and healthcare staff personnel, and appropriate hospital departments or committees. 15%

Provides information sharing, ensuring patients and families receive timely, complete, and accurate information in order to effectively participate in care and decision-making. - Bachelors General Required and
