SUMMARY: The Assistive Technology (AT) Specialist is responsible for the day to day oversight of Assistive Technology resources to increase the awareness, availability, and use of technology to enhance quality of life of older adults, people with disabilities and caregivers;
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conduct AT assessments for community members and make appropriate recommendations.
• Provide recommended AT services for community members including equipment ordering, installation, and maintenance, training, and on-going support.
• Facilitate and provide AT outreach, education, and presentations to consumers and community organizations while promoting a positive image of WellWise Services Area Agency on Aging.
• Develop and recommend forms and strategies for streamlining efforts with staff and community members.
• Educate, train and develop staff at monthly meetings, and as required.
• Complete work by deadlines. Prepare reports as required.
• Participate in Agency Management Team in all phases of Agency operations.
• Administer Home Safety Assessments to community members
• Develop, review, and maintain documentation protocols in accordance with contractual requirements.
• Keep abreast of trends and best practices in AT
• Attend relevant trainings and maintain relevant certifications
• Ability to conduct in-home visits
• Detailed record keeping and inventory of all Agency AT equipment
• Provide support to IT Specialist as needed
• Ensure appropriate funding allocations and invoicing procedures
• Responsible for AT demonstration inventory and protocols
• Other duties as assigned consistent with the employee’s skills.

Education and/or Experience:
• Minimum of Bachelor's degree required.
• Degree or certification in technology or human services preferred.
• Customer service experience required.
• Experience working with older adults and/or people with disabilities preferred.
• Assistive Technology Professional certification preferred.
• Demonstrated skill and ability to speak with large groups.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from end users, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or Board of Directors.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Other Skills & Abilities:
• Ability to manage time and work well with people on an individual basis.
• Ability to travel throughout the region (Hillsdale, Jackson and Lenawee Counties) and the State of Michigan to attend meetings/trainings.
• Ability to access office files.
• Ability to accurately enter and retrieve information from a computer.
• Ability to sit for long periods of time.
