What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director - Project & Portfolio Management position at Welty Building Co.?
As part of Welty Energy’s Leadership Team, the Portfolio Director will advance our efforts to become the best customer centric professional services consulting firm for electric utilities in our target geographic region through client relationships, staff engagement and process improvement.
As a Welty Energy Portfolio Director, you are expected to:
- Be a primary liaison in the development of relationships with a designated client or clients as well as advocate for Welty Energy’s portfolio of services and capabilities.
- Be part of the Welty Energy Leadership Team and collaborate and consult as needed for the benefit of the organization.
- Lead a team of Portfolio Managers who manage a portfolio of transmission and distribution projects for your client(s).

- Be responsible for the successful implementation of all client-specific software, tools, and processes.
- Ensure outstanding training is provided to incoming and existing staff.
- Provide career development guidance to your team.
- Provide general consultation to client(s), but project specific decisions / consultations are to be communicated by the assigned Project Manager.
- Assist with the pursuit of new business with existing and/or potential clients.
- Complete specific tasks as needed and as determined by yourself or the Leadership Team.
- Support the Leadership Team with strategic initiatives.

- Lead the efforts to recruit and retain high quality talent.

- Drive salary administration for your team.
- Recommend salary increases and bonuses for your team.
- Recommend career progressions for your team.
- Interview and recommend candidates for hire and promotion.
- Approve hiring and promotion recommendations for your team.
- Support training for onboarding and staff development.
- Actively engage in Energy L10 Meetings and with Leadership and Management Teams.
- Drive strategic goals for Welty Energy.
- Consult on projects with your team.
- Attend site visits as needed.
- Perform safety observations during field visits at project locations.
You will also be expected to:
- Act as role model for Welty Core Values, OPTIC (Openness, Passion, Teamwork, Integrity, Customer Centricity) and Welty Energy strategic objectives.
- Share knowledge with and train additional team members.
- Establish trust and healthy rapport with all Welty Energy staff at all levels of the organization.
- Collaborate with Leadership and Management Teams to foster a productive and encouraging environment.
- Establish goals for your team(s) that are measurable and provide metrics for tracking purposes.
- Meet timesheet and expense expectations including appropriate application to corresponding projects and submittal and approval deadlines (weekly) for you and your team.
You should bring to the table:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or similar. Master’s Degree preferred.
- Minimum of ten years of experience managing utility clients, projects, and people. Electric utility project management required.
- PMP preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective leadership and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn client’s systems, tools, and processes.
