Job Description:
Diagnose, adjust, repair and overhaul small engines used to power riding lawn mowers, push mowers, generators, chainsaws, trimmers & blowers.
Job Requirements/Work Experience & Skills:
Candidate must be a skilled small engine mechanic that is highly motivated along with having manual dexterity & great attention to detail. This position is for long term, full time & permanent with an established family owned business of 70 years. You will be responsible for ensuring functionality & reliability of machines and engines along with diagnosing the source & extent of the problem. Will need to have working knowledge of using small hand tools i.e. screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, compression gauges, ammeters, and voltmeters to test engine performance and perform the repair. Must have the ability to completely tear down an engine and rebuild it if necessary. Mechanic will be responsible for discussing equipment issues, maintenance plans and work performed with customers. Will be responsible for entering and submitting warranty claims, if applicable, once service has been completed. Writing up service tickets with a detailed description of work performed along with service cost & contacting customer to advise of completion and answer any questions. Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner. Will be responsible for completing mandatory service technician training classes & successfully passing each course on a yearly basis.
Additional Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Small Engines Mechanic
- Excellent knowledge of machinery, hydraulic, electrical and other systems & their components
- Proficient in using various hand tools as described above
- Ability to quickly learn & follow established procedures and practices
- A strong commitment to all health and safety guidelines
- Very good communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving & diagnostic ability
- Ability to work in a high paced environment with a heavy workflow & completing service tickets in a timely manner
- Very good physical strength and stamina
- Must have a High School diploma; Certification from a vocational school or completion of apprenticeship is a definite plus
- Valid EETC Certification is preferred
