Position Overview : The United Way Navigator will be responsible for supporting activities necessary to successfully assist ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) community members in Near Northside of Harris County achieve their goals. A successful applicant will be culturally and linguistically competent, will have a working knowledge of community resources available in the area, and will have experience as a community organizer, advocate, case manager or volunteer. The Navigator will primarily support the clients of community organizations external to Wesley.
Essential Functions :
- Assist clients to access, apply for, and obtain services, and programs
- Engage and collaborate with area non-profits, governmental entities, and other regional and national stakeholders.
- Represent the United Way at meetings and events for networking, partnership building, collaboration, and referrals.
- Advocate for refugees, immigrants, underserved residents, and ALICE community members to have equity of access to services.
- Assume the role of system coordinator and resilience-building expert.
- Prepare and submit reports as required.
- Ensure compliance with United Way Second Century Vision expectations for Navigation services
- Maintains accurate standardized customer records in accordance with guidelines and participates in the peer review process
- Conducts client follow up and accountability calls to ensure that tasks are completed.
- Assists with navigation to other services through warm and regular referrals to other providers and conducts follow up.
- Produces accurate monthly performance reports, regular monitoring of program target attainment and client outcomes
- Works to ensure placements are completed.
- Participates actively in staff meetings, monthly case conferences and all agency staff meetings and trainings.
- Represents Wesley at community functions as required.
- Supports through word and action the Wesley Community Center’s Mission statement and core values.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Ability to write and speak clearly and informatively; Strong computer skills including typing and Microsoft Office; Strong customer service orientation; Ability to work cooperatively and support the team’s efforts; Ability to interpret and communicate contractual mandates and guidelines; Attention to detail. Exceptional communication, interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills. Case file management experience. Consistently demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and a creative approach for generating new ideas with the principles of continuous improvement.
Experience with customer tracking and management information system entry. Bilingual fluency required, Bilingual in English & Spanish preferred.
While in this position, the employee is expected to seek to understand, communicate appropriately and effectively, and build a positive, professional rapport with all clients and business partners using active listening and conflict resolution skills. Ability to adhere to deadlines, react to unpredictable events quickly and efficiently, be resourceful, manage conflict and challenges.
Education & Experience :
Bachelor’s degree and / or five to 10 years’ experience working in areas of outreach, advocacy and / or social services.
Work / Physical Requirements : Employees in this position will work primarily in an office setting where they will interact with clients to help resolve issues; while also occasionally having to stand and walk to complete job duties. Must be able to lift and carry up to (25) pounds unassisted. Employee in this position may be required to work weekends in support of program services and special events.
