Job Summary
The summer camp director is responsible for delivering an enriching camp experience for youth and senior adults during curated one and two-weeks summer camps scheduled throughout the summer. The camp director will work closely with full-time year-round resident services staff located at the properties to implement summer camp programming or summer fun days (1 day to 2 weeks). The camp director will be on site to prep and run activities for the seniors and children, alongside resident services staff. Additionally the camp director will work with staff ahead of camp opening and after camp closing, to prepare activities and to report on activity participation and effectiveness. Youth campers are children in grades 1 through 6.

As director, you will play a crucial role in creating a fun and safe environment for children and seniors (separate camps) while facilitating a variety of engaging activities both indoors and outdoors. This is a full-time seasonal position, with hours Monday through Friday. Employment begins Monday, June 2nd and will continue through Friday, August 15th.

Essential Functions
- Supervise and ensure the safety of campers during all activities, including outdoor excursions and field trips.
- Develop and implement age-appropriate activities, games, and crafts to promote camper engagement and enjoyment.
- Foster positive relationships with campers by providing guidance, support, and encouragement throughout the camp experience.
- Collaborate with camp counselors and Resident Services staff to plan and coordinate daily schedules and special events.
- Serve as a positive role model for campers by demonstrating sincerity, respect, safety, and responsibility in all interactions.
- Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming camp environment.
- Communicate effectively with Resident Services Coordinator, parents, and fellow staff members regarding camper progress, concerns, and achievements.
- Adhere to all camp and company policies, procedures, and safety protocols to ensure the well-being of campers and staff.
- At least weekly, enter camp data in Resident Services database, Apricot. Maintain daily statistics in order to be able to report on participation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Two years previous experience working with children in a camp, recreational, or educational setting preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage and connect with elementary school age children of varying ages and backgrounds.
- Willingness to participate in learning, artistic and physical activities with campers.
- Punctual and reliable attendance
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain no later than the first week of employment).
- High school diploma or equivalent required; pursuing or completed relevant coursework in a related degree program is a bonus.
- Able to operate a smart phone and computer, including ability to answer calls, attend Microsoft Teams meetings, enter data into a database, and maintain a calendar in Microsoft Outlook. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, a web browser, and the basics of Excel.
- This position requires regular sitting, climbing (stairs), balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
- Able to operate equipment/machinery that requires the constant use of hands/fingers/wrists (ex.’s: typing, filing, etc.) throughout the workday
- Able to regularly lift and move up to 30 pounds. Able to occasionally move up to 50 pounds.
- Activities will be performed inside and outside with exposure to climate controlled and uncontrolled environments.
- This position requires reliable daily transportation to camp sites located throughout Northern Virginia (80%) and Washington, D.C. (20%). Wesley Housing provides mileage reimbursement.
