Role Summary:
We are looking for a skilled Orthodontic Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will play a vital part in providing quality care and support to our patients. Your main responsibility will be to assist the Orthodontist during various procedures and ensure the smooth operation of our practice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the doctor during dental procedures by preparing the patient, sterilizing or disinfecting instruments, setting up instrument trays, and preparing materials.
- Assist the doctor in managing medical or dental emergencies.
- Place orders for dental supplies and equipment, and keep track of the inventory.
- Expose dental diagnostic x-rays.
- Create preliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations to mount the study casts.
- Pour, trim, and polish study casts.
- Collaborate with the doctor to create temporary restorations or custom impressions from the initial impressions.
- Fabricate and fit orthodontic appliances and materials for patients, such as retainers, wires, or bands. Fabricate temporary restorations or custom impressions from preliminary impressions.
- Capture high-quality intraoral and extraoral photographs.
- Clean and polish removable appliances.
- Apply a protective coating of fluoride to teeth.
- Provide post-operative instructions prescribed by the doctor.
- Instruct patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs.
- Take and record medical and dental histories and vital signs of patients.
- Record treatment information in patient records.
- Assist with scheduling appointments and managing patient flow
Experience & Qualifications:
- 1 - 2 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- CPR Certified
- Systems: Familiarity with dental practice management software to efficiently manage patient records, appointments, and billing.
- Medical coding: Understanding medical coding systems to accurately document procedures for insurance purposes.
- Medical documentation: Skilled in documenting patient information, treatment plans, and progress notes accurately.
- Anatomy knowledge: Strong understanding of dental anatomy and oral structures.
- Vital signs: Ability to measure and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and temperature.
- Aseptic technique: Skill in maintaining a sterile field during procedures to prevent infection.
- Medical imaging: Experience taking dental radiographs (x-rays) using digital or traditional methods.
- Patient assessment: Ability to assess patients' oral health conditions and communicate findings to the orthodontist.
- Assisting: Competence in assisting the orthodontist during various procedures, including adjusting braces, placing appliances, etc.
- Must have a valid and unrestricted Drivers License.
