Wesley Shelter Safe House Case Manager
Wesley Shelter Inc. is the domestic violence and sexual assault response agency in Wilson County. Wesley Shelter has been serving the Wilson community through its many programs since 1983. Services include: 24-Hour Crisis Line, Domestic and Sexual Violence Response, The Edward Y.C. Thorne Safe House, Legal Services, Therapy, Children's Programs, Hispanic Outreach Services, Community Education, Prevention Services, The Clothesline and more.
The primary role of this position is to assist victims of domestic and sexual violence in finding available resources and services in an afford to maintain safe and stable independence post their Safe House stay. The Case Manager will assist victims at the Safe House with all case management needs as well as with support with any civil and criminal court, safety planning, referrals to other agencies and other options that provide safety and support.
- Assist with some oversight of the Safe House in the absence of Shelter Manager.
- Provide telephone crisis counseling and admit clients to shelter. When space is unavailable, or safety is an issue, assist clients in locating alternate safe shelter. Work closely with other DV/SA and Homeless shelter providers. Develop relationships.
- Process clients into the shelter and assist in their orientation to the shelter and intake. Maintain shelter log.
- Conduct lethality assessment, create individual safety plans depending on client’s situation.
- Facilitate and implement individual goal plans with residents. Work closely with community resources to meet the identified needs of clients. Become familiar with employers and hiring practices.
- Provide case management, review goal plans weekly, and give guidance when necessary, in how to accomplish each goal, make sure each resident makes progress on her plan. Prepare clients for exit when the time is appropriate. Request extensions on shelter stay when appropriate.
- Provide guidance when situations present, and a client is non-compliant, focusing on rights and responsibilities and the understanding of each.
- Problem solves with clients, teach them strategies for coping and becoming self-sufficient.
- Work with advocates and community partners in providing job counseling, information, training to residents, job search activities, online application assistance, interview strategies and how to dress for interviews and work. Help them secure work appropriate clothing. Provide additional instruction for identified topics around educational services, health and wellness activities, financial empowerment. Determine when financial assistance is appropriate. Work in collaboration with agency staff, and outside resources to meet client’s needs.
- Arrange or provide client transportation and arrange child care when necessary.
- Assist residents in procuring home furnishings when they secure their own place and are ready to leave the shelter.
- Assist residents in constructive discipline measures for their children, helping them to model good behaviors for their children.
- Participate in follow-up services to those leaving the shelter that need them.
- Attend weekly staffing meetings. Provide monthly program statistical reports to Executive Director. Perform any other duties assigned by Executive Director.
Requirements/Qualifications for the Position:
· Minimum of master’s degree in social work, Psychology, Human Services or other related Human Service field.
· Minimum of four years of human services experience, preferably with previous experience working with domestic and sexual violence and human trafficking.
· Previous experience working with crisis intervention is desired.
· Satisfactory background check, including but not limited to criminal background and driving record screening.
· Driver’s License is required.
· Bilingual in Spanish is desired.
