Job Summary
The Horticulture Specialist maintains and nurtures the nursery, ensuring the health and vitality of all plants. This role requires expertise in plant care, cultivation, and propagation, with a focus on optimizing plant health and nursery efficiency. Key responsibilities include fertilizing, transplanting, propagating, pest and disease management, and organizing the nursery to support a thriving and sustainable growing environment.

Responsibilities and Duties
Fertilize and care for all nursery plants, ensuring they receive proper nutrients to support health growth and vitalityTransplant root-bound plants into larger pots to encourage optimal root development and plant health.Organize and maintain designated nursery sections, including trees, native plants, shrubs, ensuring proper labeling and care.Harvest and propagate plant cuttings from the property for both native and non-native speciesEnsure all propagated plants are properly labeled, potted, and maintained for successful growthRegularly weed all nursery pots to maintain a clean, healthy and organized growing environmentMonitor and maintain irrigation systems, performing routine checks to ensure proper functionality and efficiency.Assist with weeding and general landscape maintenance across various locations on propertyMaintain the Chef's garden boxes, starting seeds and managing plant growth based on requested vegetables and herbsHarvest fresh fruits daily from the orchards for the fruit stand, ensuring it is well-stocked for guests and family visits.Identify and address plant health issues, including pests and disease management, to sustain a thriving nurseryMaintain an organized workspace, including tools, supplies, and propagation areas.Support additional property locations as needed, contributing to overall landscape and horticulture maintenanceJob Skills and Qualification
Skills & Abilities
Strong knowledge of plant care, cultivation, and propagation techniquesAbility to identify and address plant health issues, including pests, disease, and nutrient deficienciesProficiency in transplanting, fertilizing, and maintaining a variety of plant speciesFamiliarity with irrigation systems, including troubleshooting and maintenanceStrong organizational skills to maintain nursery sections and ensure proper labeling of plantsAttention to detail in weeding pruning and overall plant maintenanceAbility to work independently and efficiently while also collaborating with the team as neededBasic knowledge of soil health, composting and sustainable growing practicesAbility to lift, carry, and transport plants, soil, and other nursery materialsComfortable working outdoors in various weather conditionsEducation Requirements
High school diploma or equivalentAssociate's or Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Botany, Agriculture, or a related field preferredMinimum 2 years of experience in nursery management, plant propagation, or general horticulture preferredHands-on experience with plant care, cultivation, and propagation techniquesKnowledge of native and non-native plant species, including their specific growing requirementsExperience with irrigation systems, pest management, and soil health is a plusPhysical Demands and Work Conditions
